My point is, Tasco, why is this newsworthy? what kind of discussion can this lead to?

Mr. T., I am surprised you are coming after me for this post, I was expecting Cassini. And I thought you had an opinion on everything!

Well it surely is newsworthy since it is being reported by various media all over the world:

http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us%3AIE-Searc...

In Venezuela the opposition has already stated:

"We are going to ask that the President of the Republic take a toxicological exam, as would any baseball or football player,"

"This is an apology for the consumption of drugs."

Considering Chavez is supporting the Farc, fabricating invasion plots against Venezuela and is in the process of moving troops to the border, it should be of interest to Colombians if he has a “clear" mind when he insults their President and when he is attempting to escalate tensions between the two countries.

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

Sr Tertius says on Jan 26, 2008, 12:17:

I'm not coming after anybody: I'm simply asking two questions. You guys need to stop being so paranoid.

The media all over the world also reports on Britney Spears not wearing underwear; should we discuss that too?

There's a part of the Venezuelan opposition that even less serious than Britney, so I wouldn't pay too much attention to them. I presume they're the ones pushing the outright imbecility of associating coca chewing with drug (cocaine) consumption.

Chavez doesn't need any pharmacological help to be what he is. And criticisms against him, most very valid, lose strength when presented along frivolous stuff like this.

“It is another symptom that (Chavez) has totally lost the concept of limits," said Anibal Romero, a political scientist with the Caracas Metropolitan University. “It shows Chavez is a man out of control."

“If he is affirming that he consumes coca paste, he is admitting that he is consuming a substance that is illegal in Bolivia as well as Venezuela," said Hernan Maldonado, a Bolivan analyst living in Miami. “Plus, it’s an accusation that Evo Morales is a narco-trafficker" for sending him the paste."

"Cocaine addiction could also explain why Chavez was prancing about like a banty rooster in a red paratrooper tam over the Christmas holidays in Colombia.

And it would also explain why Chavez insists to have kidnappers-of--the-innocent, murdering FARQ delisted from the world’s terrorist list"

tasco66 says on Jan 26, 2008, 12:27:

Here is more discussion on the subject:

"Actually, coca leaves are a mild stimulant with about as much kick as a cup of coffee. However, later in his interminable speech, Chavez refers to doing "coca paste" - a partially refined product of the coca leaf that is highly addctiive and is usually smoked. His being high might explian this rant against farmers who dare sell their products outside of the country:

With the country recently facing milk shortages, Chavez said "it's treason" if farmers deny milk to Venezuelans while selling it across the border in Colombia or for gourmet cheeses. "In that case the farm must be expropriated," Chavez said, adding that the government could also take over milk plants and properties of beef producers. "I'm putting you on alert," Chavez said. "If there's a producer that refuses to sell the product ... and sells it at a higher price abroad ... ministers, find me the proof so it can be expropriated." Addressing his Cabinet, he said: "If the army must be brought in, you bring in the army."

As you can see, Chavez has now given himself permission to appropriate anyone's property at will. All he has to do is accuse them of selling their products beyond the border. At the very least, this kind of intimidation will tamp down unrest when he regulates the price of farm products.

Slowly, Chavez is exercising powers that were denied him during the vote to alter the constitution last month. Unless he is stopped, he will get everything he wanted then and probably take some more."

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

Sr Tertius says on Jan 26, 2008, 12:32:

Oh, please. First off, you can't chew coca paste. What Chavez has advocated is to chew coca leaves, which is legal in Bolivia and Venezuela. These people are reading way too much on what was probably a lapsus. Shows how serious they are.

It's incredible that this can pass for a serious discussion.

One wonders why he is making so many “lapsus" these days?

Anyway, why are you commenting so much on something that is not worthy of discussion according to one of your previous posts?

If I see a post that is of no interest to me I just ignore it.

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

I'm not interested in this particular point, but I am VERY interested in educating myself on why so much BS on Chavez is being taken so seriously. Why do people believe his supposed aspiration to papacy or his intention to ban miniskirts? I think that's an interesting issue. I always probe the bullshitter du jour to educate myself.

"One wonders why he is making so many “lapsus" these days?"
It doesn't take a highly discriminative mind to separate the stuff he actually believes from simple errors of speech.

Rob77 says on Jan 26, 2008, 13:10:

Chavez's statements are very relative to this forum and issues related to Colombia. We already know he is looney, and cares little about world opinion, and that many of his actions and statements lack logic. So, we are left with snippets of his rediculous comments to decipher what he has in mind for, not just his own country, but for the hemisphere.

Lately, his staements, accusations and actions seem to point towards trying to provoke Colombia into a confrontation, and to distract venezuelans from their country falling apart under his 'leadership'.

The fact that he is trying hard to legitimize the FARCe terrorists AND legitimize their illegal drug trade, may predict his next move - somthing like granting unconditional asylum to all terrorist groups in Colombia (those who label themselves communists!) This would give terrorists sanctuary and a safe base from which to launch attacks, and move drugs and money between the countries.

I think Uribe already saw this coming. Which explains why his recent trip to Europe caused Spain to go out of their way to publicly offer military help to protect Colombia's border. . . Wouldn't be a bad idea if Spain closed down the border between the two countries, allowing Colombia's military to focus on closing in and cornering the terrorists in the jungle. They would have no place to hide.

The biggest obstacle would be the commies, trying to paint the situation as Uribe selling the country back to the old colonialists. But, hey, they can go live in havana if they don't like it!

Sr Tertius says on Jan 26, 2008, 13:53:

I don't know what's funny about it. As I see it--and please point me where I am wrong--Cassini posts are on opinions (right or wrong) on matters that are relevant: You can agree, disagree, or (like I do for the most part) simply dismiss his opinion. I have criticized commentaries on Uribe's documented links with narcos in the 80s, not because they are false but because they are irrelevant. The posts on Chavez trying to be pope, banning miniskirts, and chewing coca paste, make false statements of fact on stuff that is completely irrelevant.

If someone says that Uribe is a pedophile, and nobody takes note of that, you'll probably see me asking some questions.

Mr. T, this is going to be my last response to you on this subject, because obviously for something that is not worthy of a discussion, you are willing to continue to argue forever.

Chavez says that he likes to chew coca paste in front of a camera, and all I did was post the raw recording. This is obviously a provocation from his part. So don’t be surprised if people spin this one way or the other.

So Cassini’s Chavista propaganda is “opinion", but anti-Chavez propaganda is just “false statements"?

I have to laugh though. Chavez is running neck to neck with Paris Hilton as the world's biggest attention whore.

The following clip is from today's ALBA summit. He's asking Evo where's his coca supply. LOL

Ha ha, I watched the video of the interview with Rafael Poleo in "Los Chismes de la Bicha" -- with that name, you can't help but take it very seriously. Mr. Poleo, needless to say, has absolutely no fucking clue of what he is talking about.

Is this really the best that Chavez's opposition can come up with? No wonder Venezuela is fucked.

Cassini,

"Personally I do not chew coca leaves. For the moment I am sampling a good french wine."

To my surprise it would appear we may have found something to agree about. What is the wine you are delecting? I am on my second glass of an excellent gigondas at this moment.

I also think this topic is appropriate for this forum. Whether we like it or not Chavez's thoughts, actions and beliefs are very relavant to Colombia.
