How to win a Colombiana's heart

I'm planning a trip to Cali in July. My question is simply this ... what is the best way to a Colombain ladies heart. Seriously. I know that from country to country, culture to culture, things are different. Of course all women love money and loved to be spoiled, but, is this the main way to a Colombian woman's heart? Or, are Colombian women looking to be more pampered romantically (holding hands, romantic dinners, spending lots of time together, etc.)? Just curious ...

Chillwill, I am not an expert on this subject, but I suspect this may vary from lady to lady. However, the majority do appreciate what Aretha Franklin sang, R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Will, other things that help win a Colombianas heart is accepting and contributing ($) to the well being of her family which extremely important to THEM. Don’t worry about them liking you, if you’re a gringo you’re in like Flynn. They’re going to show you off to the entire village and maybe have a desfile with statues of saints and marching band, 4 or 5 village drunks sucking on old trumpets, just get polluted and enjoy it.

I'll get there, when I get there!

being a 'gringo' alone is enough! my dad was irish and my mums colombian and from all the other mixed couples i know the major thing that seems to do it for Colombiana's is the sweetness, sincereity and faithfulness that a 'white' guy can offer. colombian guys who are into 'the man is king' and all that macho crap are a dime a dozen, in fact, its part of the culture. physicality also plays a big part- the fact that u might have blue eyes and fair hair is enough of a novelty, opposites attract afterall.

Follow-up's ... Thank you all. I have some follow-up's:

1) Are Colombian women competitive with men? If they want you, will they be "in your face" (meant in a friendly, kind way). Or, do they sit back and expect the man to "make the moves"?

2) Kind of related to the first question. Are women flirtatious? For example, in a disco, would a Colombian woman smile at you from across the room to get your attention?

Thanks.

amber,

I see, so then we colombian men are not sweet, sincere or faithful and just a bunch of 'machistas'? It's a shame that someone who is half-colombian has such a stereotypical view of colombians.

colombian women love gringo guys. it all has to do with what the spaniards planted on our indian women's mind, long story. anyway, dont sweat it dude, once colombianas see your gringo ass from accross the room they will come after you, with no mercy. enjoy the ride.

Will, most Colombianas of middle class and up think just like the ones on this site. There’s no better place than Colombia for gringo guys, but I gotta tell ya, don’t bother trying to hook up with barranquilleras from estrato 1 and under, they only like vallenato dancing kick ass corronchos.

chillwill Time to search here on your PBH google...you'll find the definition of estratos, vallenato, as well as corroncho. Also read posts from other gringos/gringas/colombianos/colombianas about Cali and Barranquilla. BIG differences between the two cities on many levels and one wonderful similarity. Time to do your homework.
No joda monocuco guayabero. (kind of like "have a nice day" in currambese" ma o meno)Elmo can correct my gringo errors.

Special question for Elmo
Barranquilla confuses me, and I have about ten questions for you regarding this damn place. The first one is:
Carnaval lasts for 5 days, so why do those curramberos continue the party for another 360?

no offence intended ColombianoX I don't believe that about all Colombian guys, because i know they're not all the same, but there unfortunatly there seems to be more machistas then not. please don't be offended as u may be one of the good ones. like in all countries there are the good and bad. i am proud of my heritage, but realistic too

miguel, a real barranquillero or corroncho likes to be drunk 360 days a year. since moving to nyc i have become a littel more civilized and only drink from wednesday to sunday, that's why i'm already a bit tipsy.

miguel, i gotta go soon, but tomorrow i will post 10 things that confuses most firt time gringos to curramba (barranquilla)

will, estratos, is a colombian way of social racism. most colombians living in estrato 4 and up don't socialize with lower estratos. the higher the number the better off you're suppose to be. maids, loteria guys are from estrato one. i used to be estrato "-5" and when i return to retire in barranquilla will move up to estrato 1.

I'll get there, when I get there!
