how to pay workers in Colombia from the US?

How easy is it from Colombians to cash American checks in Colombia? It is from a large company but we just started doing business in Colombia and need to pay some independent reps there

American checks? C'mon they give you a difficult time trying to convert US dollars into pesos at the bank. You may need to look for another way of paying them.

What type of company are you operating, if you don't mind me asking? Also, where in Colombia are you located. Yeah, I know, I'm curious.

In anycase, good luck.

Brad, better hope your Colombian reps have US bank accounts, or that you can pay them in cash until you set up a Colombian business structure for your company. You might also succeed at wiring them money from the US to their Colombian bank accounts.

Forget about ever being able to cash a US check in Colombia, except at that cute little bank in the US Embassy, which you'll never see anyway.

For now, if the employees need to get PAID, there's always Western Union. YOu can't let them starve to death.

listen, money talks and bullshit walks. i used to manufacture there (medellin) and had about 60 employees. you pay them with cash. period. even colombian firms, unless quite large, pay the slaves in that ole filthy lucre. get a bank account, transfer your funds, get a book keeper, pay them weekly and keep good records. BECAUSE if you're of the honest variety. you will be obliged to pay their liquadition when you've used them up. if you're just one more rogue rip off, forget all that i've said and give them a check from some bank in west hell italy.

If you want to pay "indendent reps" the best way to go is makin' a direct deposit on their bank accounts. In Colombia, you can have automatically transfer to your bank account, deposits that comes from a foreigner source not larger than 5,000 USD every month or 20,000 USD by year. If it's more than that, then I suggest you take Waterdawg suggestion very seriously.
