how to get to Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá from Bogota

I will be in Bogota during the week of Nov 24th and would like to visit Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá. I would like to visit the Cathedral during the week tuesday -- friday. What are the best transprtation options to visiting the site? Also how should I prepare for the trip? ie. take food and water?, take a jacket? etc.

thanks for the help and opinions

Take the transmilenio to the last stop, which leads to a small bus station. Then you can easily take a bus to Zipaquira and either walk 15 minutes to the mine or take a taxi. Its pretty easy to get there.

You will want to take the train de la Sabana. Picks up in Usaquen and takes you to Zipa.

You take transmilenio till the Portal, then take a bus that says Zipaquirá once in the town u can take a taxi. You dont need to take food or food, there 's a small convinience store. Jacket, well, depends how is the day. Take your cam but tripods are forbidden. ticket cost 15.000 pesos

If you go by public transport go early to beat the crowds. After the trip you may want to eat in town, don't go to the first restaurant it's dreadful, there are plenty of others. We had a laugh with others who had also gone to the first restaurant. Have fun.

We paid a taxi driver to show us around for the day. As I recall we paid about 50,000 pesos. The driver also knew the attractions along the way and the neat out of the way places to eat.

you are suggesting to take bus to go there.... i mean, is not to easy, right ? specially if you are foreigner, is easier to take the train on saturdays or sundays or take a taxi

Exactly, coolcolombia, being a foreigner, I would like to find the most "no-brainer" option. OK no puns about gringos having no brains :-) But the train does not work since I want to go during the weekday.

The main thing I am leery about taking a bus is getting back. I would hate to stay too late and miss the bus. Are taxi's the next best option? I would think there were some tour buses one could take.
