Enter COLOMBIA illegally. Never mind immigration , visas, international law, or any of that nonsense.
Once here, demand that the COLOMBIAN government provide free medical care for you and your entire family.
Demand bilingual nurses and doctors.
Demand free bilingual local government forms, bulletins, etc.
Deflect any criticism of anything you do with, "It is a cultural United States thing. You would not understand, amigo."
Keep your American identity strong. Fly the USA flag from your rooftop, or proudly display it in your front window, hanging from the rear view mirror or on your car bumper.
Speak only English.
Demand classes on American culture in the COLOMBIAN school system. Bitch there are not enough newspapers, radio and TV stations in English
Demand a local COLOMBIAN driver's license and cedula. This will afford other legal rights and will go far to legitimize your unauthorized, illegal, presence in COLOMBIA.
Insist that COLOMBIAN army personal and law enforcement teach English to all its officers.
Oops! Good luck! Because it will never happen in Colombia. It will not happen in Mexico or any other country in the world... except in the United States.

Copete says on Apr 28, 2005, 19:48: Bigotry That analogy of Americans in Colombia is totally off the mark. And the big difference lies on the fact that the US, unlike Colombia, is almost by definition a land of immigrants, and until not too long ago seemed to have a general welcoming attitude towards them (well, especially if they were white Europeans). But the newly found bigotry against immigrants (undocumented Hispanics in particular) is a dangerous notion that seems to be finding quite a bit of acceptance lately. The widespread opposition to bilingual education is a good example. Contrary to the popular belief, I for one have never met a college-age US-born Hispanic who can't speak English proficiently. They speak it at least as well as George W. Bush does. I know it's a low standard, but I'm sure most people agree that he has "made it". On the other hand, in most countries in the world bilingual eduaction is regarded as very desirable. Not in in the present narrow-minded, monolingual United States.

The Immigrant group getting the "Biggest Shaft" here in Miami is not of hispanic origen BTW, it is the Haitians. Talk about a lousy welcome-they get it.Their country is the poorest in the hemisphere, extremely dangerous(more so then any latin american nation presently) and they get deported in a heartbeat. Contrast that to the Cubans who get a hero's(?) welcome here in Miami, SSI Benfits, free medical, educational and housing benefits. Oh, forgot to mention residency in one year and a day and instant work permits. Is this a great country or what? "Wait a minute. What did you just say? You're predicting $4-a-gallon gas? kernow62 says on Apr 28, 2005, 20:11: Furthermore the primary reason there are Spanish language TV and radio as well as newspapers in the US is simply because they are making money, especially for American companies who advertise on them. It is not an act of charity, it is capitalism at work. Without the advertisments these media outlets would not exist.

joyzers says on Apr 29, 2005, 06:47: Elmo You couldn't have said it better, and I'm in total agreement. Have you seen the movie, "A Day Without A Mexican"? It's completely about this subject, and I believe will definitely leave most people thinking differently about things at the end of the movie. You summed the entire history of the US up in a couple paragraphs. We think we are superior, but we don't realize that we got here by other people's willingness to bust their ass to make our privileged lives cushier. Do they ever complain, NO. Do we, YES. Sad, but true. That shows you that all of the possessions and astronomical amount of greed that us gringos have. We have everything, and we complain about all things. These Mexicans (which by the way every Hispnanic is considered Paco the Mexican- I hate that!), don't have as much, on average, as we do. They always are happy and laughing and enjoy life. I work with a high percentage of Mexicans that can't read or write and work their asses of every single day of their lives. I have never heard one complaint come out of their mouths about the pay or the terrible treatment that we gringos give them with our superiority complex. Like I said, check out that movie, I enjoyed it.

miamimike says on Apr 29, 2005, 21:01: Here in Miami a lot of Immigrant Abuse in the... workplace is not committed or iniated by Northamerican employers. The bulk of the Abuse against immigrants of Latin Descent here in Miami is by employers of their own Nationality-that is to say same race. These people think nothing of hiring a babysitter or housecleaner and making them work 24/7 and then will not pay their Social Security(its the law-over $50 wages per quarter-got to pay SS)if the immigrants complain, the employer threatens the immigrant by saying he/she will call immigration and they will get deported. Many of the people doing this are Cubans who arrived here in the 60s-70s and seem to think they have more of a Right then other immigrants arriving now. And this abuse happens bigtime-but not at the hands of Northamericans for the most part. Ask a Latin waiter/waitress who is the Best Tipper here in Miami-I'll be surprised if they don't say, "Northamericans of course" "Wait a minute. What did you just say? miamimike says on Apr 29, 2005, 21:27: Another Thing I don't understand... is why children of Illegal/undocumented immigrants think they are entitled to attend Florida Public Universities at Florida Resident Tution Rates. Many out of state students attend school here and Pay Non-Resident rates. Many go into heavy Debt and repay their student loans for decades after graduation. The Parents(legal residents) of these students are US Taxpayers who pay lots of Federal Taxes but get no Discount on Tuition when their Children attend schools out of state as here in Florida. Why should someone who is illegal get the same(or a better break) as a legal resident?? Go into debt as any american student has to do by paying the going non-resident rate. When I travel to Colombia or the DR for Medical Work or in the past, college Courses at The Universidad de Guadalajara I payed the going rate for Extranjeros-not even a thought as trying to attend at resident mexican rates. I payed Cash on the Barrelhead for my medical work even though I knew Natives payed maybe 20% less. Never an arguement-I payed. Why should others expect it from us? "Wait a minute. Brians says on Apr 30, 2005, 05:47: Wow what a post There is so much tension here it is amazing. As an America I beleieve I am very objective. We are bashed for just about everything we do yet everyone still wants to immigrate here. Yet I agree with most of you. There is a very bad tone in America that our soft economy is to blamed on outsourcing and illegals. This country was built on immigration and we need to rethink that here. This finger pointing only leads to hatred. Hitler used the same tactics against the jews. I am not saying we are going there but it is not healthy. We need to understand our problems are not the illegals (mostly low paying jobs) or outsourcing (not nearly as bad and has been happening for 50 years to different regions of the world). I think that the problem America has is also it's best attribute. We are not a homogenious society like Colombia, Mexico, Sweden etc.. We are a melting pot. We end up blaming the different looking guy who is making more money. However immigration has been the lifeblood of this country and always will unless this seniment doesn't change. I am sure it will soon. Anyway I love Colombia and it's people and I love America. I guess sometimes I feel like Americans get blamed for too much and not enough credit. Sorry guys if I went off subject a bit. I think this subject is sensitive to a lot of people. I am a Gringo and I guess I just hate being referred to as one with a negative notation. I actually feel a lot of these posters on Poorbuthappy hate me and my country. Sort of like how a lot of uneducated Americans blame illegals and outsourcing for our problems.

gregshav says on Apr 30, 2005, 06:22: I live in New Mexico near the border, and I don't know a single person here who is against people coming across to work. What our concern here is, is that in the long stretches of desert anyone could walk across with a bomb or any other device and create a huge problem. What most people want is a secure border to keep out the riff-raff, not necessarily people looking to work. Most people around here understand we need the Mexican workers to fill jobs. The workers are trying to support their families just like us, and they are doing jobs that would NOT get done unless they did them. California maybe different, but no one here is crying about the strain on the system of the immigrants. We are actually concerned about the strain on the system if the immigrants are prevented from coming to work.
