How to easily get 29 pesos per minute with Tigo and not have to deal with Tigo personnel.

As you may or may not be aware, Tigo has a promotion where you can choose several friends who also have Tigo numbers and call them for only 29 pesos per minute.

There is a monthly charge of 1500 pesos per number, but that pays itself off if you speak to that friend for more than 10 minutes a month.

Tigo numbers start with the prefix 300 or 301.

Once your friends know that you are using the promotion for their number, they can call you with the understanding that you will not answer their call when you see their name on the call display. You then call them back at the cheap rate.

Here are the instructions.

Enter your friend’s 10 digit Tigo number in a text message with nothing else. For example, put 3005551212 in a message and send that message to 29.

You will then receive a confirmation text message that you have been charge 1500 pesos and have been given the promotional price of 29 pesos for the number 3005551212.

To cancel that number before they charge you again the 1500 pesos on the monthly anniversary, do the following:

Again enter your friend’s 10 digit Tigo number in a text message, but this time put a C in front of the number (C for cancel). For example, put C3005551212 in a message and again send that message to 29.

Comcel is trying to compete with this promotion by introducing a promotion where you are charged an annual fee of 12k per number and then can call that number for free for the first five minutes. Yes you can hang up and redial every five minutes in order to continue with a free call. However I do not have any firsthand experience with this promotion.

and NO, I do not work for Tigo.

Good news. I'll check it out next week when I'm down there as I usually use TIGO.
