How To " Sling Box" Can somebody explain please

No you do not need a TV setup in the US but you do need an active cable or satellite receiver set up somewhere to connect the Slingbox to.

Basically you connect the Slingbox to the receiver and then a ethernet connection from the Slingbox to your internet router/modem. You then run the software via ethernet to set up the Sling ( type of receiver,hostname and password)
You then install the Slingplayer software on the Laptop that you will be using in Colombia, entering the hostname and password. Thats about it in a nutshell

When you run the application on your laptop you will connect with the Slingbox in the US over the internet (hi speed) You will see the screen and a remote control to control the receiver.

That's exaxtly right Mike B....get the fastest lines in both locations....and it works just fine...We have a T1 in the states and DSL in Cali...we're starting to do this now....

Correct about the fast line.. for performance you'll need a fast upload speed in the US and a fast download speed in Colombia.
