How safe is Monteria, Cordoba?

Hey all,,

I am currently planning a trip to Cordoba and as l read more and more l get many different views on how safe this destination is?

So l thought l should ask those that would know from first hand experience!

How safe is Cordoba for a short stay of about 7 days for a well travelled Australian who does not speak Spanish????

And if anyone could tell me of a hotel in Monteria, other than the Hotel Sinu l would be very grateful.

Thanks.
Mark

Hi Mark,
One friend Monteriana, told me for Hotel Alcazar as clean chip and decent one.
I m planning to be there also next month. As much i ve heard , Monteria maybe is the safiest city in Colombia. But i never been there my self and i dont have personal opion.
Have a nice time.

Montería is nowhere near the safest city in Colombia especially not now. I will be there the day after tomorrow. Fortunately, I will only be on the ground for 15 minutes or so. That was/is AUC country. The AUC demobilized throwing everything into chaos.

I would say that Montería is now one of the most dangerous places in Colombia for an extranjero. If you don't speak Spanish, stay the fuck out.

Monteria is an OK place, hot and dusty but not at all dangerous.

Uk Foreign and Commonwealth office advies against travel to Cordoba. Haven't been there myself but would love to.

'someone' said it wasn't safe.... due to the "swaying hips of the young costeñas, in the steaming nights along the banks of the ________ river."
I can never remember the name of that river, but the 'dangerous, swaying hips always sounded inviting.
Isn't Monteria too far inland, for those girls to be referred to as Costeñas?

and, thank you.

Sinu river

It always sounded to me, billy,
like a place we needed to tag-team...
along those steamy banks....
squeezing between the swayin' hips.

and, thank you.

billyb says on Feb 1, 2008, 15:48:

Methinks you are correct SL.

billyb says on Feb 1, 2008, 18:57:

It used to be probably the safest zone in Colombia about 4 years ago when the AUC was in total control, but with their disbanding (alleged or otherwise) there is a power vacuum that is only settled with violence.
