LilaM says on Jan 8, 2008, 17:33: well as i see if you go there you can meet the Monkey Jojoy in person, take care of what you do here in colombia, if is dangerous for even the military, I don't want to think about a foreign one. minina says on Jan 8, 2008, 20:32: If you want to explore some jungle you might just be better off in Brazil, or Peru. Going to the jungle in Colombia is like saying to the FARC: "I'm here, and I wanna be kidnapped". By the way the name is Arauca. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

KyleHanky says on Jan 8, 2008, 23:06: Arauca is the department; this person is saying the area of Araracuara correctly. Also, Caqueta is pretty dangerous. It is probably one of the highest risk areas to run into the FARC, but you still some chance of making it out of there, through it's quite slime. Despite all the pressure from the Army, the FARC actually have a new front in Caqueta and it's pretty hot right now. If you know a Colombian there (not just going and meeting someone there, but know from outside that part of Caqueta), you will have a better idea of the situation and have a better chance over going. But that likelihood is low, and really, it's just best not to go there. That's just not a safe area.

KyleHanky says on Jan 8, 2008, 23:06: And this is not from just another traveler; I have been to Arauca and Putumayo, three times to the latter, for example. I would not go there.

KyleHanky says on Jan 9, 2008, 13:14: In no way a ridiculous question selvagringo. I've asked about Arauca and been told I would not make it out alive, but I did. Still doesn't mean one should go to Araracaura.

Pimpinero says on Jan 10, 2008, 08:26: there is a military base in Araracuara surrounded by, I presume, hostile (read guerilla) territory. Apparently it is quite a beautiful place but just not worth the risk. I myself am always on the search for good jungle places to explore, drop me a line directly and we can exchangefurther inf. The area around Leticia is always a safe bet withplenty of interesting sights albeit somewhat touristy and no rapids.

Mr. Hollywood says on Jan 11, 2008, 11:41: I found this to be very interesting. The top part is a botanical assessment but there's more cultural and other information toward the bottom. Sounds like an amazing part of the country. Would be great to be able to safely visit it.

Robert Jorge says on Jan 12, 2008, 00:36: Gorgonabob, that is good news. Don't be shy about posting any information about ecotours and your experiences with the tribe. I would be fascinated to hear about it. He who farts in church, sits in his own pew. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
