I dont know what the regulations are, you may want to call the customs and airlines people for the correct info, or maybe go on line.
However, I took a whole suitcase full of manicure and other supplies, tools, lotions all kinds of stuff, for my Novia in Cali. No one asked any questions or seemed to care.

Assuming it is not prescription grade stuff, I would assume that PROBABLY you won't even get a second look. Just declare it all and call it gifts for cohorts. Don't try and hide it. If you are the very rare, unlucky person that they try to stick a tax to ... so what? If the tariff is ridiculous, tell them to throw the shit away and catch a cab. Obviously, don't take more than you are willing to lose, but the chances of the airport customs guys saying something are VERY slim. Just make sure the diet pills aren't in the same shape as a Smith & Wesson, and made out of metal.

sounds like you're bringing business items down, eh?

If not... there's no charge for 'aire'. and last I heard, it burns the fat.

why don't you say what you need or want to bring, and then maybe people can respond appropriately, rather than keepin people guessin about it... and posting endless possibilities.

RJ is right just claim it as gifts, for friends and relatives.

I've always brought down with me many items, incluiding skin care products, perfume, a laptop, clothes, shoes, toys and boxes of chocolate and have never claimed anything and no one has ever said a worl to me. With the exception of the securtiy guard at the airport who seemed really interested in the new laptop, still in box, as something he would like to own.

You will have no problem, UNLESS the red light come on and the inspector believes you have "commercial" quantities. He/she will make THAT determination.

Enough to make it weigh under forty pounds. Does the luggage get lighter the more weight loss stuff you carry?

What's the point of weight loss product if it doesn't make things lighter? I don't get it. ;)

yo, bradk....i don'[t know what/why you're toteing weight loss products, but let me assure you this. if you set up to live in colombia and eat as colombians do. you'll lose every gram of excess weight you have. guaranteed. just go out in rural colombia, see the folks and the pudding test will prevail. you, for the grace of GOD will go likewise. it's a promise. the food is organic, wholesome, doesn't come in pill/powder/liquid form. it's just plain old good food. if you eat (and drink) like the colombians do, you'll trim right up. you can take that to the bank. save your money, 'when in rome........; you'll never regret it.

dwmte7 speaks the truth. It happened to me. 10 pounds in ten days on my first trip. Another 10 pounds over the course of 4 months on my second trip. And I ate much more than I did in the US. I didn't exactly drink lightly either. The only explanations that I can come up with are: food quality - lack of artificial crap / poison, altitude and temperature, and exercise. I went from 10 foot altitude to 4000 to 6000 foot. It was constantly hot, even at night. I ate nothing but local food. And I walked as much as possible because I was too cheap to take a taxi for 3 mil or a collective bus for 1 mil.

jorge...i've never been much for the exercise 'trip'. always been on the slim side. i did get into a habit back in santa monica of going to the beach in the a.m., running/jogging a mile then jumping in the ocean for a cool down before going for my morning cappuccino. but it wasn't til i ended up living in colombia that i learned what walking means. it seems to me that it's just part of living there. sure, i could take taxis anywhere, anytime, but i found myself just walking around. in centro (medellin), laureles, poblado, envigado my wife and i just walked everywhere. then when i lived up-country, i walked everywhere. when i lived on a finca by the glorietta, i just walked everywhere; too, the same held true in llano grande...that is unless it was more than a mile or two. colombians just walk a lot. and my sisters in envigado walk their asses off, even though they have cars, means, etc. in fact, if i'm in envigado, come fin de semana, they take off in the a.m and walk up into the mtns and don't return til evening. just a different way of life. my suegro, at 75 must walk 5 miles a day...if not more. so if brad is overly conscious about weight, he needs only get into colombia and the colombian way and all that excess poundage will fall by the side of the road...no pun intended. go for it brad.

no its ok. i appreciate the humor. actually i sell a new weight loss product in salons down there. so its not so much for me. as a network marketing company we just opened up in Colombia and they love this product as well as a skin care line that takes 3-5 years off the face in 30 minutes. I havent had problems before but was wondering if there could be potential problems. also the girl i am going to see says there is no problem for me as an american traveling from Bogota to Medellin and then Medellin to Cali in a car with her. Any problems with Farc etc. I have never had problems before but have only traveled from Bogota to Villavicencio by car. Everywhere else I have flown. Please advise. Thanks

I was no fat-body when I went to Colombia. 5'11" and 179 lbs. if I remember correctly. When I first came back after the 10 day trip, my coworkers commented that my face looked different and asked if I was sick. This prompted me to weigh myself and I was right at 170. After later living in Villavicencio for 4 months or so, when I came back I weighed myself on the Publix (grocery store) giant scale they have at the entrance. I was 158lbs.

Bradk, you asked about the safety issue with travel between Bogota, Medellin, and Cali. According to nearly unanimous posters, those trips are quite safe. I haven't made those trips either, but the question is asked constantly here, and the responses are always the same - that it is very safe and secure. Like you, my longest city to city trip is Bogota to Villavicencio. I am very curious as to what took you to Villavo. Besides a few spooks at club Kuarzo that were obviously gringo and probably military, I saw less than 10 total my entire time in Villavo. Not one American. How did you like Villavo? Here is my favorite joint. I consider it a requirement to go to if you are in Villavicencio. The required night is Wednesday of all nights.

I lost weight after moving to Colombia, too. Can't chalk it up to my diet, which is generally just a good in the US, but I do give credit to walking everywhere and also the extra exertion of being at altitude.
