Christian...I'm going to try to help you but...... I need a little more info. I have no idea what you are trying to do.
Are you applying for a fiance visa or ..... I don't understand your problem. Maybe one of the more experience people who are on this evening can figure out what your dilema is.

If you want to send monet to Colombia use Western Union's money transfer.
The fee depend on from where you send the money.
From NY it would cost you 83$ in addition to the 1200$ and from e.g. Iowa it would cost you 93$ extra.

christian I'm not an imigration attorney but I don't believe that there is a set amount that you need to have in your bank account. The decision as to whether or not you can provide for your fiancee will be based on your last three years tax returns. You have to have made 150% or more of the poverty level to qualify. If you are just bringing a fiance and you don't have any dependents at the moment then it will be the poverty level for just two people plus 50%.

If you made more than that you won't have any problems. However if you did have a lot of cash in the bank it can over come the fact that you didn't make more than 150% of the poverty level.

Christian....Good people here can help There are a lot of regulars on this board that are very familiar with this proccess. I should point out that this question comes up here often. What you should do now...is edit your discussion or open a new one so that as people come on tommorrow, they will know what you are talking about. It was not clear that you wanted help on preparing yourself financialy so that you can obtain a fiance visa for your girlfriend. If your Spanish is better than your English, consider putting it in the Spanish discussion board here.

In the meantime there are two things that you can do now.
1.Go to the bottom and look back at past discusions. Fiance visas come up here all the time in the discussions
2. Go to the top and Google "this site" for fiance visas. Again, you will find many prior discussions and threads that will give you a very good idea as to what is expected of you.

Don't worry. You will find some general advise here.

Christian there is a man in Bogota that deals with K-1 visa's. He can help a lot with this issue as he had done this many times. Good, honest, straight forward and the cost is reasonable.
Private mail me and I will give you his address

A bank letter Would only be required if your income from the last three years was did not meet the minimum income levels required by the USCIS and you intended to show assets to make up the difference.

My bank account regurlarly acheives single digit balances and I had no problems with my K-3 visa application.

when my husband sent a bank letter to the Embassy oh US for me (in that time he was graduated student that need to show he was able to support himself and me)he needed to have at least USD 2,500 . Well, it was 15 years ago, please, take a correct advice with a inmigration attorney.

Adela...
it is much more complex than that now and probably was then also. There is a form and calculation that tells you how much income you need to have to support a family of any given size. I varys a little based on location and active military status. If you are short you need to show five times the short amount.

The thing about immigrations is that it is so fact and individual specific that giving advice without being skillfully questioned by the person giving the advice is likely to lead to misunderstandings and denials.

no Problem
I just completed the fiance visa back in September, the only guidelines for the financial responsibility is that you earn the minimum amount required by 125%. In other words if it is just you and your fiancee, I believe that the bar is a measly 18 thousand dollars with 25% added to that which would be a total of 22 thousand dollars. if she has kids the bar will increase and etc...etc...
E mail me at rfonteno665 at yahoo.com if you have any more questions relating to the visa process.

rfonteno wrote "the only guidelines for the financial responsibility is that you earn the minimum amount required by 125%." This is not true. If you are in the military you do not need the additional 25%; only 100% of the published poverty tables. There are other exceptions as well.

As I said immigration requirements/law are extremely fact specific and not enough is know from the original poster to give specific advice. And when getting with immigrations you better be very detail oriented and familar with the consulate you are dealing with.

you are correct. I was not in the military and I noticed some of states such as Hawaii required a higher income. the sum that I provided in the above earlier post was what my immigration attorney gave to me. there is a general guideline for income on us gov. visa website.

Rfonteno And in general it was a valid statement. I know someone whe got his fiance here with no income from thr three prior years what ever. The thing is it is so tricky and frustrating. You cannot even get the same answer twice from the USCIS.

If you do something incorrect on their advice they are not liable what-so-ever.

The forms tell you what to do if you can sift the wheat from the chaff.

I did all my paper work myself but spent more time educating myself than most immigrations attorneys. In fact one immigration attorney gave me a free consultation. In the end he wawnted to know how I knew so much and leaern about my system.

He actually got a Colombiana here that had gotten caught with a falsified passport here. This is quite a feat actually. She dumped her bobo as soon as she could stay legally without him.

Caveat Emptor!!!
