How much luggage should I expect my wife to bring?

I travel very lightly, and have never had more than 2 bags... both being carry-on until they started making you check your bags for travelling with toothpaste, cologne, etc.

However I realize that women are wired differently, and my wife may be expecting to bring muchas maletas when she comes to the USA for the first time (to stay).

1. How much luggage should I expect her to want to bring?

2. How much does it cost to bring addtional luggage on the airplanes?

Thanks in advance...

luggage Well all the U.S. airlines i recall are down to 50 pounds per bag, the limit being 2 per person unless you go business or first class, then it is 3 and 70 pounds per bag. It is 2 bags per person overseas for tourist class but may then be 70 per bag, but you should check. If one go's on Avianca, they are real liberal about overweight suitcases, so i would look at going with them, depending where you are located.

Let her bring her favorite photos & personal effects, her sexy clothes, and then buy what ever else she needs when she gets here.

Also be prepared that she may gain weight once here, as many Colombian and south American women do, so lay down the golden rule to her if unless you do not care. Once here they tend to fall in to the fat and overweight prevalent gringa fashion we have up here.

I would demand 8 days a week in the gym, upon arrival ...if she is Colombiana.
Because...

Why Not Colombia?..........Stay Tuned, for more.... utterly worthless, self-indulgent gobbets of nonsense.

From experience... I cant tell you that when I left home to move to the UK I only took 2 suitcases plus 2 items of hand luggage and just withing the weight limits. I used to live with my parents therefore there wasn't much for me to carry. However I had to leave a few things I knew I could do without or that I could collect in future trips.
About the weight gain that some very nice people have brought up... think about it... if you are away from family, friends and what is familiar to you it's easy to find comfort in food even if you have moved to be with the person you love. Good luck...

It often depends on how you purchased your ticket We had a three suitcase allowance; two at 70 lbs and one at fifty. In country (Colombia they are more restrictive) I had to keep reminding them that my flight originated in the US and they always honored the more liberal weight allowances...eventually.

My wife brought all between all of our suitcases. But she was from a poor family and had little.

This all depends on the airlines. Each airline has different weight limits. American I believe is 2 70 pounds, checking in, and one or two carry ons that can be placed in the overhead. Check there web sites or just call.

If you are going to pick her up. I suggest you pack light in two large suite cases and use the extra space for her stuff. That and her two bags, will give you enough space. My friends do that all the time.

Good luck.
