How much lugagge weight are you allowed to take to Colombia?

I'm travelling to Colombia soon... and I was wondering how much weight you're allowed to carry. Are the overweight fees expensive?

Avianca... INTERNATIONAL EACH PERSON: TWO PIECES OF LUGGAGE at 70 LBS (30 KG)each ONE CARRY ON BAG AT 26 LBS (10 KG).

INTERNAL IN COLOMBIA EACH PERSON: LUGGAGE ONE BAG 44 LBS. (20KG)
ONE CARRY ON BAG AT 26 LBS. (10 KG).

You have seven days of travel I THINK, before you have to switch to internal regulations. Items like lab tops, cameras, large purse are not included in the limits.

Update Call Avianca if you are checking two bags and flying coach during high season. One of your bags will be sent as freight and delivered to your destination 48 hours after your flight arrival. The weight limit, as stated above, is 70lb per checked bag. This is very current information.

lbs seems to vary with airline http://www.continental.com/travel/policies/baggage/carry-on.asp?SID=692935C001DD407893D49B6DF5620B04

http://www.continental.com/travel/policies/baggage/check.asp?SID=692935C001DD407893D49B6DF5620B04

these are urls showing the same allotment of 70lbs for check in but 40 lbs for carry on.

This is Contenental...also I was told that in no way can you bring any extra weight...they will not allow at any cost...

Boxes are not allowed Be aware that this time of the year, (and christmas) some airlines have embargos on boxes. I know AA has this policy but Im not sure on Avianca.

Remember... These rules are firm and you CANNOT pay for overages. I have seen many a person unpacking things in Miami and leaving them at the airport.

Speaking of Bags I fly into Bogota friday night and have only 1 hour to make my flight to Cartagena. Is there anything I can do before hand (besides praying) so that my bags will make my the flight to CTG instead of getting stuck in Bogota, AGAIN.

Same Airline Che? If so then it might happen, but I make sure you've got an overnight bag with you.

1hr...whew, IMHO that's a ***really*** tight connection for an international arrival/domestic flight. I'm surprised your agency let you book that one.

Nah I booked it myself Actually I'm flying out of Ft Lauderdale (Avianca) it's a 6:00 pm flight, I do it because I work near FLL so I can go straight from work without wasting any time off. YEah it's fucked up but that's what I'm dealing with. Last time I checked in one bag and it never made it to CTG. I was pissed but very suprise that they sent me my luggage the next morning. Although I didnt get it because on of the reception guys is smoking crack. I ended up having to go to the airport to pick it up. I prepared for it to happen again.

travel light? How much stuff do you need for a week in CTG? Just pack a carry-on bag.

If you want something done right, do it yourself.

But, 1 hour to clear immigration and customs AND catch a connecting flight seems ambitious. Good luck!

If I could take 2 carry on, I would do it. But I have to much stuff to bring so I can't do it. Clearing customs isn't a problem because if time is limited Avianca will pull passngers aside who have connecting flights. Most likely I will have to wait to the following to get my luggage, I will just live with it.

pushing the limit... I'm sure I am pushing the limit (in fact I always get hassled, but push through the fuss) with my carry-on (that is just a hair short of being too big) and my backpack (as my "Purse or personal bag"). It's technically only 1 carryon and an small bag, (with only a little imagination) but both fit in the overhead (with some pushing) or under the seat if necessary.

My point is that I have carried quite a lot in my carryon bags even after all the limits. The trick is to have as large (and as stuffed) "personal bag" as possible.

Either way, good luck with your connection.

Crazy4Cali Ive use to do that when I flew with American Airlines, I have yet to try it with Avianca. But it might be worth a shot, I just hate packing my bags to the limits and wrinkling all my cloth. I know I sound like a litte bitch, I'm really not that vain.
