HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY FOR AIRFARE TO COLOMBIA??????

It is time again to share the airfares that we all pay to fly to Colombia. What airfare are you currently paying to fly to Colombia? Here are some that I have currently received:
LAX - BOG $493.00 with taxes and fees $601.69
MIA - BOG $499.00 with taxes and fees $569.69
LAX - CLO $519.00 with taxes and fees $627.19
MIA - CLO $475.00 with taxes and fees $585.69
All in US$
Looks like they are sticking us with surcharges.
What prices are you getting????

The prices look reasonable to me, depending upon the season.

With the taxes and fees, you can schedule a special flight where you get on the plane, and get then get right off again, and pay about $110 - $130, just for the taxes and fees.

I think the airlines show you the fees separately, so that you become aware of how much you are being ripped off by the government, besides the usual monopoly Latin American airfares.

At one point, I could fly round trip from SFO to MIA for 1/5 the price as a direct round trip flight from MIA to CLO.

At certain times of the year, it is actually cheaper for me to fly to SFO from Cali, than a direct flight from Cali to MIA.

Latin America REALLY NEEDS competition.

I actually don't plan to go back to the states, because I'm afraid I might end up in one of their 600+ gulags spread throughout the country. And torture and imprisonment without trial is now legal in the US, for no reason given whatsoever, even for their own citizens.

My advice since age 12 has always been "Don't reelect anybody".

You better take care of me Lord, if you don't you're gonna have me on your hands.

That's good thinking. Personally I feel much more comfortable selling everything I own and betting it all on a country in a 50 year civil war.

Nothing like having a vested interest somewhere because return to the "other place" will be almost impossible,, OK really difficult to return or relocate.

Remember seeing a lot of Expatriates who needed to return to the US in the late 70's. Oh, oh,, things were a LOT more expensive.

Reminds me of the recent news story about people on dollar fixed income living in Europe. Drats,, seems they can't get many Euros for a dollar,, maybe half as many as they did 5 years ago?

Damn,, must be tough having your income cut in half. Oh,, wait,, Isn't that what has happened in Colombia?

Colombian Chickens are crowing about the new President of the U.S. who will assure that From each according to their ability to each according to their need.

For Amsterdam - Bogotá (via Paris: Air France or Madrid: Iberia), my parents and I have paid the following for a roundtrip ticket including all taxes and surcharges per person:

945 EUR in 2005 with Air France (booked 2 months in advance for the first week of July)
885 EUR in 2006 with Iberia (booked 6 months in advance for the first week of November)
995 EUR in 2007 with Iberia (booked 3 months in advance for the second week of January)
860 EUR in 2007 with BA/Virgin/Continental (_almost_ booked 1 month in advance for May)
1045 EUR in 2008 with Iberia (booked 2 months in advance for the second week of January)

When we do book, we are flexible with the dates and choose the cheapest option that comes up without going via de US (just because I wish to avoid my parents the hassle of US customs and security). However, Delta usually is the cheapest option available coming up with prices which are 30 to 50 EUR below Iberia's.

From Toronto, you can fly Air Canada direct to Bogota (at best) US$700 or so, no extra charge if you can get a rare free connection to Medellin.

Or take Continental through Houston, maybe for $800-1000 or so.
Or take AA through Miami, maybe for $800-1100 or so.

But prices change so much depending...

The real cheapies are sell-off airfares Toronto-San Andres, sometimes these can be round-trip $200.

Just returned from Colombia last month. The total fare was $652 USD. Not a direct flight but two to get to Colombia and a little turbo prop flight to get to my destination city not bad pricing.

They treated me just fine last time.
True, they are not Singapore Airlines, but they are not US Air or Northwest Airlines either.
American Airlines is far from the worst.

continental f/ houston
$658 fees and taxes... (prepaid... I like that.. no worries about having to go to some lil window in some unfamiliar - mostly - airport and pay another $100 before leaving)
... totaled something like $742.... fast flight, very convenient and comfortable, booked only a few weeks ago.

That would really suck (major suckage). I think the people who retired to the C.R. several yrs. ago are starting to feel the pinch also. Prices there are now almost American (at least 70% U.S).

Don't know where the dollar will go with respect to Latin currencies but is an uneasy feeling and something to keep in mind.

On the airfares is amazing the small difference between MIA flights and West Coast USA flights. Would think MIA would be lot less due to less fuel expended. Hopefully Jet Blue and Spirit get in the game to CO and take the airfares down.

Now we got the LFL so who needs to watch the NFL?

GS,

While the Continental flight would avoid a layover for me, the schedule is seriously bad. The flights don' get to Bogota until around 9PM and leave from Bogota at 9 or 10 am. This means you need to be at El Dorado at the crack of dawn. I am normally going to other cities besides Bogota and the flight there get in too late to catch a connecting flight and the return is too early to fly into Bogota that morning. Consequently, I waste two nights in Bogota that I would rather spend with my wife.

With the AA flights, I leave Houston at 6am, but I am in Bogota at 1:40pm with plenty of time to connect to my final destination in Colombia and the return doesn't leave BOG until 3pm, so I can fly into Bogota that morning and catch the flight to MIA.

Spring of '06 you could get $350 round trip tickets MIA / BOG all day long with Avianca, LAN, and probably a couple of others. But who cares now ? ... those were the good ole' days. Right now out of Miami, unless it changed in the past few days, I was seeing $550, more or less with LAN.
