Robert Jorge says on Apr 13, 2007, 18:54: My wife's mother is a hair stylist for men and women. She works in Villavicencio, so that is smaller obviously than Cali. But, she makes the minimum wage. She works about 40 to 50 hours per week, depending on business. I am not sure what the minimum wage is in Colombia, but it aint' much and has been mentioned on this site a lot. My wife said that is pretty typical, (to make minimo), as a barber/ stylist ... again, at least in Villavicencio. He who farts in church, sits in his own pew. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

scotty says on Apr 13, 2007, 19:19: PD That sounds about right. It is hard to figure out because it all depends on the number of clients, where you are located and what type of cuts the customers are having but your estimate of 150 to 220k sounds close. Robert Jorge says on Apr 15, 2007, 23:34: My mother-in-law gets propinas from about half of her clients she said. She said 1 or 2 mil is normal for a tip. So, on top of making the minimum wage, that could be an extra 200.000 pesos of income per month, mas o menos. Considering rent for her is 230.000 pesos a month, that isn't too bad. Cerealkiller says on Apr 30, 2007, 11:21: It depends though. Bf and bro get 35 000 haircut at Macho's in Bogota and mine was usually around 40K but I used to have a girl coming home to do nails and hair...Its is a lot more expensive in any city and of course the area where you get it done. The ministry of health has put very strict hygene regulations in Bogota, and people are required to wear surgical masks and buy ovens to disinfect stuff, which made haircuts a bit more expensive but at least you know youre not going to get freaking tetanus if you get cut by accident.
