how much costs rented room in bogota strado 6?????

Hi guys,
recently, somebody - a friend of my friend - offered me a room to rent in Bogota in estrado 6. It is in a nice and posh area and includes also pool and gym which are in the block of flats.

Now, he wants to rent it for 1.000 000 pesos a month and it seems to me that it is a bit overpriced. I saw usual prices for rooms to rent on PBH and according to that I really think that it`s too much. However, I have never been to Bogota (so far) and I might be judging it wrongly.
Please, how much is a room to rent in Bogota (estrado 6) in reality??? Can it climb up to one million pesos a month????

Thanks a lot,
s. :-)

It is just a room, or the whole apartment? For a whole apartment, 1.000.000 in estrato 6 is reasonable I would imagine. Maybe even a good deal. But for a room? I don't know. That seems pretty high to me too. I am sure the real experts will comment before too long. Sundays are slow days on PBH.

Seems pricey for just a room.

Yeap it´s pricey. But. . . that depends on the neighboorhood. If it is ESTRATO 6 a single room can cost you 1.000.000 COP only if it is on the eastern hills. (Among 134 - 140. . . just right on the mountains) Maybe Santa Bárbara alto (Near to centro comercial santa barbara, near to the hills.) Or some places in Bosque Izquierdo.

Otherwise it´s a rip-off.

Remenber that rent in colombia (at least bogotá) usually DON´T INCLUDE, gas, food, water. . . You have to add that.

I agree, for only a room it seems a little pricey. But for an estrato 6 apartment expect to pay 1,200,000-1,500,000 COP upwards in a good area for a 1 bedroom. When I was looking at apartments there recently, some the newer more luxurious buildings had 1 bedrooms for 2,000,000 plus.
But it should not be too hard to find a small apartment for about the same as that room. But as mentioned above, with no services included. Plus it will be very hard for a foriegner to rent an apartment through regular channels because of the mountain of paperwork needed.

capitan_centella says on Dec 10, 2007, 06:29:

Hum. . . the usual papers do you need are: (for a regular colombian.):

1) a co-signer with real state.
2) a certifcation from your work, saying how much do you earn monthly, how long have you been working, where do you work and when your contract ends.
2.1) If you work as an "independent" you need a taxes declaration from your bussines, signed by a acountant.
3) two personal references.
4) two work references.
5) a bank account.

I think that´s all. . .

shenley. As far as renting cheaper but nice places in Bogota goes - truthfully; I have no contacts other than people here. I would send a message to Gringo In Bogota, or the other several nice people here who actually live there right now. GIB doesn't return my mesages - but maybe for you he would? If you use the Google function at the top of the thread page, you should be able to find a BUNCH of apartments for rent. Again, good luck.

I thought it was Colombia the most mispelled one.

A fully furnished room in an apartment, with all services included on an strato 6, could not be too expensive. One thing to have in mind is if you like the area you could ask around or a celador "watchman" of prices around there.

There are different kind of apartments and some had small rooms others had big rooms that is another fact to have into account.

Also remember that one million pesos could be the asking price, you can always barter or negociate depending your findings. Santana Norte, could be one of the high priced areas.
