How many times have Venezuela and Colombia been in a tiff over the last three years?

Has anyone kept count? How many diplomatic squabbles have there been over the last little while? I remember something about a coca plantation on the border that neither country wanted to claim, and some diplomats being shuttled home. Then the FARC kidnapping negotiations got them both a little huffy this fall. Any more schoolyard shoving matches recently?

And not just during the last decade or so. There was something about territorial waters too, a looooooong time ago, about how some line was drawn off the peninsula of Guajira ...does any body have any idea what I'm talking about?

Yeah, if I remember correct, it was over newly-discovered oil fields, and Venezuela won that claim??? Too lazy and disinterested to even try to google it.

In 1987 they almost went to war over a border dispute by Guajira Peninsula, I believe. Chavez himself has stated that he was to take part in the Venezuelan invasion through the pensinsula.

Colombia causes serious problems for its nieghbors with all its drugs, drug lords, guerillas, paras, and millions of refugees. Its natural for politicians in neighboring countries to exploit the popular discontent with Colombia. I think both Uribe, and Chavez use crisis to stoke up nationalist feelings and thereby support for their respective governments.

Desi is right it was el crisis del limitrofe, and not a land boundry dispute. The most serious recent spat was when the vennies got pissed when we paid some of their officers to snatch rodrigo granda in caracas a few years ago.
