How Many Americans In Colombia?

Gringobogota mention 46,000 Americans in Colombia what was your source?
I was told by the American consulate office in Barranquilla that there was 10,000 Americans registered in Northern Colombia. I was surprised the number was this high. Now not all American are registered so the actual number would be higher. So 50,000 Americans in Colombia would seem like a believable number for all of Colombia. I would think there would be more Europeans here than Americans.

I read that somewhere too, but don't recall the source. I too was surprised by the number. If that's the case I wonder how many Canadians are in Colombia, or as you say Europeans. I didn't see many Asian tourists, but I know a few from Japan and Korea who have visited Bogota.

I believe US Embassy personel make up a few thousand alone. Isn't Bogota's office the largest US Embassy?

Could be a lot of Colombianos with dual citizenship. 46,000 gringos? No way.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

That could probably explain it. I've never seen one single anglo-american in Colombia during my visits (not that I was looking for them either!)

Colombian Americans I suspect as well.

I hardly ever see a foreigner, but when I am out at the clubs and normally the only foreign looking person there, Colombian guys regularly say hi and mention they are living in the US and are in Colombia for short or a long holiday break.

my 2 cents.... wasn't there a post somewhere on this board sometime ago that said colombians, even if they had dual nationalities, had to enter colombia on their colombian passports. i remember seeing that somewhere. which to me would me that the 46,000 number you have are not colombian-american dual nationals...just a thought....

teppar, you remembered the article partially. I believe that it relates to when you obtained US citizenship. My wife just entered on her US passport, but she obtained it many years ago. I think if you obtained US passport after a certain year you must enter on a Colombian passport.
