How long until interview?

My novia hand delivered her packet 3 documents to the embassy in Bogota today (9/7). We were excited, because I have read on this site that docmuents recieved before the 20th of each month will likely have an interview appointment set for the following month.

However, my novia says the senorita at the window said it would be 2-3 months. It was a bit disheartening, but she wasn't confident that the gal knew what she was talking about.

Which is more realistic? Any input from anyone who recently went through the process?

Thanks,
Danny H.

I feel fairly confident that your wife will be on the list for October. I think the woman said 2-3 months so you don't get too eager but I would be very surprised if you had to wait until December. Please keep us posted.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

Thanks, UTC I figured that was the case, but wanted to get some expert advice. Will definitely keep you posted.

In my case the papers were faxed to the embassy 5/26 and we found out on 6/9 that the interview date was 7/22.

Remember to plan on staying in Bogota for a day after your interview date to pick up the visa!

In our case the papers were received by courier at the embassy on 8/29 (after the 20th of the month), and we are on the calendar for September 27th.

Gracias a todos! This is great information and a big relief. Maybe you can give me advice on one more thing. Would it be wise to be in Bogota to attend the interview with my novia, pick up the visa, and fly home with her and the kids? Or should I wait until she has the visa in hand? We do not foresee any snags that would slow-up the visa being approved.

Thanks, and good luck, cam0940!

I guess that's your call Danny. I'm going. My girlfriend's never been to Bogota. Given that the interview is on a Tuesday, and the doctor's appt is Friday the 23rd, she would have to arrive in Bogota on the 22nd and stay there for a week. Alone. So I'm going to keep her company. Plus I think it'll be cool to fly back with her. Of course, the dates and logistics of your situation may be entirely different.
