Once it is approved (I assume you are talking about interview day and the official OkeeDokee), you can do whatever you want. Of course you can stay in Bogota. Generally, the visa can be picked up within 3 days - they will tell you when to come back to pick it up. I have heard a few people that said it now takes 10 days. I can't get that confirmed. Less than a year ago, we were approved and the wife picked it up 2 days later.

in the past, applicants have been instructed that the k1 visa will issued the next business day after the interview.

sometimes a holiday in the US or colombia may hold up issuance a day or two.

however, I now see posts on the US embassy website saying that visa will be delivered by Domesa service and you have to pay at the embassy on the day of the interview.

however, maybe this is only for tourist type visas.

has anyone here picked up a k1 visa in the past few months?

If the embassy is still issuing k1 visas the next day or so, then you may as well wait over in Bogota.

Once your visa is approved, whether it's a K1/K3/CR1, Domesa will deliver it to the address you provide them. If it's in Bogotá, it'll take about 3 days. If it's outside of Bogotá, it'll take about 8-10. I also read that you have the option of picking it up at the Domesa office and that takes also 2-3 days.

So if you want to depart from Bogotá once the visa is issued, you have about a 2-3 day wait before you can get it. Which isn't so bad since you can just relax before your flight.

well then. I would suggest wating in bogota and picking it up at the Domesa office.

just curious, when did they start with the Domesa service?

last july, my novia and I were able to pick the approved k1 visa at the embassy.

we had to wait over the weekend in bogota for the next business day since the issuance was held up one extra business day.

It started either at the end of November or early December.

Effective mid November 2007 Persons I have spoken to IN BOGOTÃ? say five or six days-=Embassy info below.

If the consular officer approves your visa application, your passport (with visa) will be delivered to your home seven to 10 working days after the interview, through the DOMESA courier service. DOMESA has a small office in the waiting area. In order to receive your passport with the visa, you must pay the DOMESA fee after your interview and before leaving the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit. If you live in some areas of Colombia, you will have to pick up your passport from a DOMESA office.

Immediately upon receipt of your visa/ passport, be sure to check the information on the visa to make sure your name, date or birth, etc. are correct. If you find any errors, please bring your passport to window 14 of the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit at 1:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

In making your travel plans, you should allow at least 10 working days from the time of your interview for visa processing. However, in the event that you have a reason for needing to travel sooner, you may ask the interviewing consular officer, while you are still at the interview window, to expedite the process. In some cases we are able to return passports more quickly. The consular officer will evaluate your situation and, if your reason is compelling and credible, will attempt to speed up the visa production/delivery process.

you think 7-10 days extra in hotel... and the costs thereof.. are 'compelling and credible'?

I just read a post from a K1 beneficiary on VJ.com who had her visa delivered in 2 days. So the wait time for the people living or staying in Bogotá is not bad at all.

Mononoke28... I'm just assuming, that what you are quoting,

If so, then that is....BUENAS NOTICIAS!

GS, I think you are OK. Because you plan to stay in Bogota anyway for the visa interview? It looks like you can pick the visa up a couple of days later - different place - but similar time frame.
