how long for the I-130 to go through?

I keep going online to check the status of my case and for the past 3 or 4 months is stuck on february 5, the I130 is for y husband who is colombia, so am wondering is it that they do not update their info or could it be that they are extremely slow? well if anybody went this route or know of someone who did, any info will be much appreciate it.

I believe each time a "set" of applications is processed, the website is updated. Also, "slow" can be applied to any large governmental processing system, so I don't think 3-4 months is long enough to warrant notifying your congressman/woman to look into the matter.

In general, expect to wait 7-9 months to complete from start to finish the process for a K3 visa. A bit longer for a CR1 visa.

Perhaps the best resource you can use is VisaJourney.com --- there you will find an entire history of "timelines" from which to help you answer your questions. You can also find an enormous amount of support from the community of people that reside there.

Take Care,

FG

it's not that they're slow... it's that they have a rather large backlog to work through. i just checked, and the site was updated as of 10/30/06. i'm guessing that you're going through the vermont office, as the date for the i-130 is feb 5. have you gotten your notice with the reciept date? if so, remember this, when they get to your reciept date, you are at the end of the line of those being currently processed. it's a process where when they finish x number of petitions at the front of the line, they add more at the end of the line, and the receipt date in the update can change at any given time, but they only update the site once a month. only thing i can advise, is patience. we went almost 4 months without the reciept date changing, then it would jump a few weeks or so, all depending on the load, and how fast they can process.

I guess being patient is really difficult when you want your loved one next to you especially when it has been a long time already, I just can't understand the system. it annoys me in its entirety and well we all have to go through it if we want to be together, but sorry for the outburst it's just frustrating, aurghhhh. but I appreacite your info and your responses, if anymore advise I will be glad to read.
thanks a million!!!!!

how long did it take you famsearch for your wife to join you? I hope you have a nice number, because I don't think I can handle some crazy timeline.

well.... we got caught up in the switch from the nebraska office to the california one, so it took a little bit longer than usual. we started out in feb of 2005, and our receipt date was in may of that year. we had the interview in bogota at the end of august of this year. things have gotten better i think, now that the backlog of cases has gone down. just remember, you're well into the beginning of the process, and i won't sugar coat it, but then again, i won't over gloom it, but once your petition is approved and sent to new hampshire, you're only about 3-3 1/2 months away from the interview at the embassy.
