How long for my I-130?

How long for my I - 130 to be accepted? I know it's going to take awhile for it to be a proved but it's been 3 weeks and they haven't even cashed the check yet.

Don't they have to send me a letter with some kind of acceptance number before I can file I -129 and get a visa for my wife?

usually it can take up to a month before you get the receipt for the i-130, only after that, can you file the 129f. you didn't mention which office is dealing with your petition. right now the calfornia office is at 01/10/06 for the 130's, nebraska doesn't list a 130 date, texas is at 01/03/01 for 130's, and vermont is at 02/05/06. these dates are what they call the receipt dates, the date at the top of your reciept for the 130. just when they received it, not when it will be processed. our receipt date was may 11th, 2005, and took almost 5 months to get processed and on to the next step. better be in for the long haul, it's gonna take a while...

It took approx 1 month to recieve the NOA1 notice of the I-130 --- prompting me to send in the I-129F for my wife's K3 visa. Our I-130 was approved in about 4 months.

Also -- we did get, and are still affected by the IMBRA laws. That is, it has added about 2-3 months of additional processing time. Currently, we are at a point where I returned the RFE in regards to the IMBRA stuff and are now anxiously waiting to hear of the I-129F approval and subsequent sending to Bogota.

After it reaches Bog, we intend to pre-prepare the necessary forms for the beneficiary, as well as the Affidavit of Support and documentation required of the petitioner (me). Supposedly, some shortcuts can be taken --- the faxing in of the DS-230 (I think) is ok and could shorten the time to obtain the interview from 2-3 months down to 1 month. Dunno for sure, I am still investigating this process.

nope, can't fax anything to them, they want the forms back that they sent you, because faxing will screw up the barcode for your receipt/case number. one other thing, make sure, whatever extra things they ask for, copies of tax returns, birth certificates, etc, that you write your receipt/case number in large numbers, in the upper lefthand corner of your documents. that's in case they get seperated from your forms, and they can tell where it goes. once your petition is approved, you go into what i call the 10-15 day dances. they send you the bill, you send the check to st. louis, mo., takes them 10-15 bus. days to process and send info to new hampshire, they take 10-15 bus. days to update records (see why 10-15 day dances?), and however long it takes to process. then another bill, another set of dances. if anything, be patient, your stuff will get processed. not as fast as you'd like, but processed all the same.

Well....

You can download the coversheet (DS-230 Part I), open in Microsoft Word, select and remove the existing barcode, then go to:

http://www.idautomation.com

Here you can generate the new barcode and paste into the DS-230 Part I --- I believe that the first step in the process of getting an interview is WAITING for the embassy to send the beneficiary this DS-230 for them to return part 1/coversheet, as well as a photocopy of their passport's biographical page. So we are simply removing the wait time for the DS-230 to arrive and pre-assemblying the information, which is then faxed in.

Perhaps they no longer accept these faxes, but I do know others who have done this process for K1 applications and saved them significant wait time.

what we did, was to have all the forms, mail, etc, sent to me here in minnesota. anything that needed info, or a signature from my wife, i just fedex'ed to her, and she would fedex back. then i would send the stuff to wherever it goes. happy here because i found out last night that the ds-230 was approved yesterday. now have to wait the 2-4 weeks for them to send info to the embassy. the fun is almost over...
