Tejeringo: I hear you, but for me at least Colombia is diferent. I got back from El Salvador in April and was relieved to touch feet on U.S. soil again. Not so landing in Miami via Avianca.....

Its tough for a little while, Especially with the Novia being there and all but life REALITY must go on and it makes the return much sweeter, planning your next trip. Im in Miami so its just a 3hr flight for me so I consider myself very lucky.. Plus Thank God I am in the position to go every 2 months.

miami's customs are fine, but the airport itself is from the Miami Vice era with outdated luggage machine things and it is so old that starbucks has to use kiosks instead of building an actual store

Hispanics, Caribbean Islanders, Anglos, Europeans. What other US airport is like this? Maybe JFK in New York?

Nobody wants to spend much time in any airport but if I have to spend a few hours making a connection Miami would be my choice.

Last year in September, I needed to catch a connecting flight from Miami to Medellin after commencing the journey in London.
From touchdown, I theoretically had 5 hours to go through immigration and relax before going through security to purchase duty-free and board the plane. Easy one would think, but no.
First of all, one of the immigration officers decided to play a game with me after seeing my Colombian spouse visa in the passport, asking what I did, how I could theoretically retire at 52 years of age, implying drug connections etc which were most distasteful and he also managed to obtain an audience from his shite colleagues. He eventually, after 30 minutes, allowed me through and the officials all thought it was a great joke. I obviously said nought because if I had started to react adversely, I would have probably ended up in the local jail. Do not know whether an official complaint would have made any difference but if it had happened in England, then I would have filed one.
Then, the queues for security were tens of thousands of people long (literally, not an exageration) and after seeing that I joined it. I still nearly missed the flight and missed out on the duty-free, even though they delayed departure by another hour. The worst travelling experience of my life and one never to be repeated; the last time I ever set foot in that place again. To make matters worse still, not even time to smoke a cigarette outside in my normal fashion.
You love Miami airport; more nationalities is one thing, bad behaviour by staff that should know better is another and I thought Brits and Americans were supposed to be allies! The disorganisation that day was far worse than anything I have experienced in my whole life, including living in Medellin for 3 years!

As for missing Colombia, yes I do when I return to the UK but that is probably exacerbated by my wife normally staying in Medellin when I go. I miss the UK for different reasons when I return to here. My heart is now probably split pretty evenly between the 2 countries. I try not to dwell on any of this; life is too short and I enjoy both places sufficiently to not miss the other too much. There is always plenty for me to enjoy wherever I am, even if they are different things.

I live in South Beach, fly in and out of Miami constantly both domestically and internationally along with my frequent travel to Colombia and maybe being lucky? Have never had a problem and love a great cortadito and pastelito de guyava at Versailles, yummo!

First of all I love Cali and it is like my second home but chipechape inside is clean but walk over the bridge it filthy, la sexta is pretty dirty, I all give it to you that iglesia, Granada, el penon, San antonio, some places in the south are cleaner. The malls are always well maintained.
