Is it major story like here in the US? or is it like any other stories? What is the word on the street? In the US, you can't help but talk about it and there's a huge push for donations for all sides. I'm would think that the story gets airtime, but it's not a major story because COL is so far away and has little or no political or economic interest in those regions. BTW, i ask this to get observation from people living in COL now, i'm not trying to start a debate on if COL should or should not do more or less reporting.

Atrevido says on Jan 5, 2005, 04:01: When it was first reported on television news here there was speculation that it was caused by a meteore and they showed footage from the movie showing a digitized wave washing over New York, can't remember the title.

caslug says on Jan 5, 2005, 10:43: i was curious to see the difference in media.. coverage & perception between what we(US) get here and the outside the US. It was mention that floods in Banglahdesh a few years backed killed more than 140,000 people, but it was hardly a major news story in the US. Certainly didn't get the kind of coverage you see w/ this story. I chalk that up to the media being very US centric vs world centric. But, the coverage that US media is giving about the Tsunami is the same intense coverage that the media gave for 9/11.
