How is the pradomar beach area near barranquilla from the 15 of Dec. through the new year?

Planning 3 months in Colombia and need to decide real soon where I will begin. I want to surf and party a bit. I´ve read about all the difficulty in finding accomodations in Cartagena and am thinking about starting in Barranquilla or just out side at the Pradomar beach. How is this area leading up to x-mas and for the holidays? Is it dead on x-mas or is it jammed? Please any and all advice cause I gotta buy my ticket real soon.

Another option is Parque Tayrona. I spent x-mass 2003 there and it was beautiful if a bit lacking on the festivities side of things.
