How is New Year's Eve in Bogota?

Thinking of doing NYE there this year. I'd prefer other cities, but Avianca is quoting approx. $200+ for trips from BOG to BAQ/CTG. Therefore, will probably just do Bogota for a few days.

Any suggestions regarding NYE in BOG???

It depends... It depends on what kind of an atmosphere you're looking for in NYE. I would not expect the nightlife in Bogota to be too crazy that night since most locals will be out of town, but you never know. There are some nice parties going on in hotels. Another good option is to drive to some of the neighboring towns (Girardot, Villa de Leyva, Chia).

like this BOOM...BOOM..BOOM..

I did new years in the philippines, ( where every one and their gradmother has at least 1 hand gun 1 shot gun, & others that can be bought here in the states, and supposedly you cant even carry a knife in public.

anways.. It sounded like a war zone, heavy guns too.. I think its a time when they all show off their firepower..

In the morning you read about those stray bullets landing on people..

ps.. I'm guessing about Bogota, but in medellin .. they're poppin right now..

I'll be staying in the Zona Rosa/Parque 93 area during NYE nite, since I'll have company joining me for the weekend. Trying to find a decent place for both of us to enjoy. Similar to Azul Cafe on 93.

I'm from NYC, and I know the 21-gun salute at 12:00 a.m. isn't exclusive to Brooklyn. Doesn't scare me at all.

One other thing, what's the big deal with needing to buy a bottle of liquor to sit at tables in some places in Bogota? Encountered that in the Parque 93 area, amongst other places. Only cared for a couple of beers, but that seemed to be frowned upon. It was a Friday nite. A return trip to that place is not in the cards.
