how do you research doctors????

I've found fantastic doctors here and absolutely sucky ones. Lately I've been trying to research some for various peoplr/reasons and have had problems.

One being plastic surgery for my sis-in-law who wants new hooters (no, I'm not paying).

Anyway since she's completely computer illiterate, and I don't want her spending all day on my PC, I've been doing or trying to do some research for her. She'd like it done in Medellin, and I've been searching posts regarding this.

When she calls the offices, the receptionists refuse to give out any info, she's got to make an appointment for an evaluation. Now, she's also in Armenia, so that would involve travelling to Medellin without knowing anything about the doc, nor price, nor technique, etc. for some guy to look at her boobs and give the same price and speech he gives to everyone (and charge her 70.000 to 100.000 for it).

Emails are either unanswered or they usually say to come in for said evaluation, no questions are ever answered.

So just in case I'm going about this all wrong.... how do you research doctors? We checked out posts and stuff so we have a general idea, but seem to get nowhere with the docs themselves.

Word of mouth (ie. ask friends) is probably the best way.

Go sit in the waiting room and talk to 'those who wait'

why can't the freakin Chung King Chinese just LEAVE THE FREAKN DOLLY LLAMA and Tibet ... ALONE!

Peter (Moderator) says on Oct 4, 2007, 23:59:

That's a great idea! Also: share your experiences here. Won't help *you*, but it might help others.

For example, I went to ProFamilia in Medellin, and they have excellent health care, and cheap too. If you're pregnant or anything like that, go check them out.

They have been promoting this Medellin Clinic/Hospital here in Miami(based in medellin), Clinica de Las Americas.. I have done some research on it and its a well respected full service Hospital with some very well known Plastic Surgeons throughout South America. Some PBH family members have had surgery there) The prices are very good considering the quality not to mention, having surgery performed at a full service hospital is much safer then a small unknown clinic should some Emergency occur.I doubt you would go wrong with this one! BTW, when you deal with a Clinic like this one, you Deal direct and not with some 3rd party Surgical/Travel agency who jacks up the price 50% without adding anything of Value to the end product to your Surgery. This Clinic will help you with Lodging ect if needed. They have a Dept for Foreigners in their main page Menu. Beware of these Surgical Tour Agencies as some are sprouting up these days to lighten your wallet,,,,

In Bogota, check out the Clinica(fundacion) de Santa Fe, also a very well known clinic/hospital not only in Bogota but throughout the Americas. http://www.fsfb.org.co/content/page.aspx?ID=1

Thanks, so far word of mouth is helping. She would like to speak to someone who has actually had it done, and miracle of miracles, she doesn't know anyone with it here in Colombia (how nuts is that?). So the only thing is to stop someone on the street!

She talked to some docs who promised to have clients call her or vice versa, but we all know how promises go down here too.

Thanks miamimike, she now knows about the clinic and has heard it is really good, but just try to get in contact with one of the doctors to ask what type of implants they use, $, or anything else. It's always "come in for an evaluation". She just wants general info, not going around paying 10 different docs for it.(and travelling to Medellin too) She did finally get 2 docs to respond (through receptionists) for her to email naked pics of herself as an evaluation - naked pics over the internet, sure good idea.

The receptionist tried to assure her that it is a reputable doc and all, but who's going to do something like that? She doesn't know him from Adam.

Thanks for the info Peter, I'm not pregnant jejejej but I have a list of the doctors I used here in Armenia. A couple of "dos" and a couple of "don'ts" (all dentists) I'll post up later.

Bufalo-here is a Link also to a process that all well known creditable Hospitals undergo and is known as Accreditdation. Here in the USA, its known as the JCOH Inspection(joint commission of Hospitals) unless it has this Inspection, they cannot receive Medicare Patients. As a private pay(insurance or otherwise) I would avoid a US Hospital that was lacking this,,,It is important as it is a statement of the Quality a Hospital delivers. In Colombia, is is known as the Acreditación en Salud--La Clinca de Santa Fe has it and I would think Medellin's Clinica de Las Amercas has it as well.It would be easy to check La Clinica's Webpage as I am sure they would post it to attract Clients(foreign)MORE ON IT BELOW at Sante fe in Bogota: http://hospitaluniversitario.fsfb.org.co/content/page.aspx?ID=1039

Word of mouth from friends preferably some one in the medical profession. Our best advice seem to come from nurses.

My niece got some store bought boobies in Medellin. They cost $1,500.00 US and she was able to pay for part of them over time. From what I can tell in her skin tight outfits it was an excellent job. Mrs. Diver won't allow me to perform a hands on inspection. At any rate the niece was happy with the proceedure.

There's a few plastic surgeons in Pereira, that may be a bit more convinient since she HAS to get the evaluation/consulatation before they will schedule the surgery.... I can ask my cousin, but she had a breast reduction done in Pereira, not an augmentation... My aunt and cousin had there breast done in Bogota....

Try Dr. Carlos Ramos in Medellin. He did plastic surgery on my eyes for 1500. I am planning on returning for both a facelift and abdominal work in November. I don't know how good he is with boobs but he has had some experience. One thing that sets him apart is that he will driver over to where you are recuperating every day to check up on you which is unique in this day and age.

bufalo says on Oct 5, 2007, 18:15:

IPdiver, any chance you know the name of the doc? (I tried PMing you but never got any response, not offended if you didn't want to, but could it be yours is turned off?)

She thought of Periera, but hasn't heard much from there, here in Armenia there's lots of clinics, but she doesn't know anyone who's gone.

Thanks guys, hey robbie, sure you wouldn't rather an "after" pic? I'll try not to include the face because I feel that's where she really needs surgery.....

OK IP, I'll check it out, or try to anyway. The PM's show up in the email address you registered with, I get them all the time.
