How do you deal with being apart from your Colombian/latina wife/husband/novia/novio ?

How do you deal with being apart from your Colombian/latina wife/husband/novia/novio ?

Being apart is so hard & heart wrenching sometimes..

It has so hard being apart from the woman I love and adore.. It seems like torture sometimes.. You know what I mean.. When we chat / webcam and talk at night it is hard at the end to see her tears and her crying that she misses me so much..

My Novia is one of the most awesome women in the world and it feels so great to have her love.. She calls me nearly every day for a few minutes on my cell phone and text messages me 3-4 times a day and always tells me how much she loves me and how lucky she is.. Heck , I am the lucky one along with my kids..

Now about my kids.. Well she calls them just about everyday before her English class and blows them kisses and asks them how they are.. My amor is just crazy about my kids , MSN's them , writes them emails and chats /webcam's with them.. The first thing she always asks is how are "our" kids , not my kids but our kids..

If anything happens and I don't tell her she gets upset with me.. If my son is sick she wants to know so she can talk to him and cheer him up..

I know she loves me for me and is so great..

To answer my own post I take it one day at a time , talk to my Novia everyday on the phone , webcam and chat with her every other night on MSN..

Lets hear your stories....

have a nice day,

CanadaMan

I am a foreign resident in Colombia since the 1970's. My wife and I were together 24/7 for here for over 20 years. Since the late 1990's my wife has been resident in USA, where our (adult) Colombian born children live. We both go back and forth several times a year. We have been married more than 30 years, so we must be doing something right. I much prefer to live in Santa Marta than in the USA, and my wife spends half the year up there, helping with the babies. So in recent years we have been apart a lot. I think we learn to appreciate each other more than we when are together all the time. When I miss her too much, I just fly up there for a month. I don't like to use the telephone much, though, or internet. For you youngsters starting, I recommend having children and settling down, just have to make up your mind, USA or Colombia? I know it's not an easy decision.

Actually Kat, my wife and I celebrated, over Skpe, our one month aniversary, with a bottle of wine.... It was pretty damned funny! Without technology, it would be soooo hard to stay connected, I am VERY thankful for Vonage, my local tienda that sells prepaid phone cards, and Skype! Nothing like seeing a whole other country via the internet!!

PLUS!!! When my sweet wife is here, and feeling lonely for her son and family, 10 hours on the phone?? who cares! Doesn't cost a nickel more!!!

Man! our world has gotten smaller!!!

don't get me wrong...i have all the respect in the world for the love lorn and love sick apart. it's just that so many years have passed since i felt those emotions...it's like they're lines form a novela. no jest or ridicule intended. age just mellows one out and puts weight in things/persons/issues'/emotions that aren't terribly transient or liable to change.

even with relational flaws, age allows for differences that youth couldn't tolerate. youth is so often prone to ignite and self destruct at just the thought of something awry. age, on the contrary, tends to wait for confirmation of an issue before deliberating over possible reactions. and even then, after deliberation, conclusions--tempered by age--tend to be far more maleable than those arrived at in youth.

i heartfully wish all you younger bretheren the patience and compassion to be gentle and kind with those you love and care for.

Man... you're wearing your heart on your sleeve.... get a grip! No matter how much you love this girl... you gotta go through the hoops for a LONG time before you are able to bring your novia home. In Canada.... ( unless she is independently wealthy or is following a specific university program and is invited by a Canadian University) you have two options. You either live common-law in Colombia for a period of one year ( keeping a detailed record of course) or you go there and marry her. After this.... expect an average of 8 months wait until she receives a visa, if of course the medicals , etc prove out. ( This btw comes from a very well known immigration lawyer, Catherine Sas and a good friend who went through the same process.) You really gotta be in there for the LONG haul and the costs associated... and I mean COSTS......

Good luck dude

at BradK: Joel y Luza is giving you the Visajourney.com answer. I am not saying this is innaccurate - but it could be much quicker than that. 370 days is the reported 'average' time from initial filing. Unless something has changed, if you do everything correct at every step of the process, it should take about 200 to 250 days. The process has been described a BUNCH here over the past years. Just Google search it above.

at Canadaman: Things are going well. We are at 16 months since she got to the US. The biggest challenge is the Mrs. feels like she should be progressing faster. I have to remind her every now and then that in less than a year and a half, she: Has gotten married, got permanent residency, got a social security card, got a state ID, got a learner's permit to drive, has gotten 3 jobs - two of which she is currently still employed with, made several friends, taken an accredited English course at a local university, speaks and understands much more English (before none), etc. I finally got her insured, effective today actually. No plans on children yet. But on the other hand, we are not planning not to have kids either. If it happens, it happens.

I hope for these guys they will discover the real beauty under the skin. And you will probably not really find that on the telephone, or in e-mail, from thousands of miles away.

But, I wish them all the best.

On her first trip here, we drove, on a trip, the equivalent of the length of Colombia, in a couple of days; just being a couple of tourists, (and getting married along the way).

Well, I am happy it worked out for you two CanadaMan, everything happens for a reason. If you ever get the chance I highly recommend the book "The Two Step" the dance towards intimacy - Eileen McCann. It is a very easy read - takes all but 10 minutes - mostly illustrations. It makes an interesting touch on long distance relationships. How important it is to realize that a certain "schema" is created and once the two are finally together, if you don;t approach it as totally new and expect the same as it was....you are going to have a BIG wake up call. Also - some folks only really can have long distance relationships and they deceive themselves.

The author places a note in the back: The hope for our dance lies in our willingness to be honest about our needs and fears - to trust and risk.

Good Book - I bought it when I took Marriage and Family Counselling - I think all couple should read it together ;))

Well Canada, at least you passed the minimum one year grieving/healing period that the "so called" experts recommend.

I even experienced culture shock after marrying my Hollander wife, and life in The Netherlands is much closer to the U.S. than Colombia would be. She was educated, spoke better English than most Gringos, and was already established in the U.S. with a job and green card.

But, any new marriage can get off to a rocky start without extra roadblocks.

jeje...cute. Yes, but the real test is what happens after the "Eros" stage. Love evolves and is not always an adrenallin rush like in the begining. Just a different kind of rush if two people are not delusional and addicted to Eros...they can make it work. You have to make it happen. If you are lazy, forget it.
