How do YOU Celebrate Christmas in Colombia?

Obviously, Christmas in America is very commercialized, lots of presents and "Material items".

Since moving here, I found my wife's family and friends place MORE VALUE on spending time with each other, placing decorations and lights around the house, building nativity scenes and actually celebrating the HOLIDAY with each other. Presents seem to be SECONDARY to the aformentioned.

So I am curious how YOU celebrate christmas in COLOMBIA.

Am I unique or is this a common practice all over Colombia???

I´m spending it thanking the bomberos and rescates Currently...Watching velas and firworks almost burn down the whole city every night.

Getting myself ready for the "muñecos" on New Years Eve. They are like scarecrows filled to the max with fireworks and dynamite. I saw someone put one of these in a old toilet bowl in the street and nearly killed a blocks radius of onlookers when it exploded.

fire in the hole! BAQ - my peeps in Medellin have a nativity scene set up on every apartment. Lights are also set up on the outside of every floor. There are garland light thingies hanging accross the street every half block or so. As far as what goes on on the actual day I can only give exact details next year - when I'm there. But from what I gather you hit the nail on the head.

Since the last week in November, in MDE, there seems to be massive fiestas in the streets and certain areas are closed off for these parties that span many blocks. Thursday was a Gran Fiesta/holiday - no one worked - I'm sure the same was true in BAQ as well - hell, I think the whole country was partying. Unfortunately I returned to the US too soon. That damn job of mine.....

Hi Chris, sorry for that Muñeco - that was me that lit the match. You OK?

First Things First Christmas preparations start in November and end NO LATER than December 5th,, but usually by the end of November.

Critical to a happy holiday is getting the house in shape,,,, the tree should be carefully groomed for the occasion.

FORTUNATELY I LIVE HERE and can TELEPHONE the appropriate individuals that specialize in tree grooming. Just look them up in the yellow pages,, under
Ã?RBOLES HERMOSOS: and then search RECORTE, vivos

The individual should have years of experience,,, this is NOT something for amateurs,, especially FAT amateurs.

The tree is NOW ready for decoration.
