How do I write a letter of invitation to get a visa for my girlfriend?

Hello there beautiful people,
I am an American Citizen and I would like to invite my girlfriend to visit me in the U.S. She currently lives in Medellín and she’s also self employed. Do I have to send her an invitation letter? What do they want me to write in the invitation? Is there a sample letter that you guys might be able to help me with? I'm pesperate! I understand that most of you are saying, this guy needs to buy himself a plane ticket to Medellín, and that takes care of it! But, she wants me to help her get a visa, and I'm doing my best to help her achieve that goal. Guys, thank you in advance for all the help that you all can provide me regarding this matter®

Extremely difficult Although I am far from an expert on this subject, I don't think a letter of invitation would help her, and in fact, my understading is it often hurts her...it tends to suggest there is a better chance she will overstay her tourist visa.

Unless you want to apply for a fiance visa, her "best" opportunity is just to apply for a tourist visa on her own...but unfortunately, getting that as a single girl is a little like winning Powerball.

Anyways, experts feel free to correct me if I am incorrect. Otherwise, good luck.

Her chances are probably better playing Powerball but there are winners.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

No need to write letter I agree, writing a letter probably will not help her. Concentrate on getting originals (with copies) of tax returns, copies of deeds/titles (if she owns apartment/condo) or rental contract (if renting), bank accounts, car title, copies of previous passport with stamps indicating visitation to other countries outside USA (if applicable), etc.

These documents went a long way in getting my girlfriend her recently approved travel VISA.

FYI-She is not employed.

Best of luck.

tiop It will not happen unless she has money, propery, or connections. A tourist visa is next to impossible. She may have better luck with a try for a student visa. this is why all these guys are bringing them up on a marriage visa.

Tourist visas are for rich people. The rest of us have to wait.

Stand on her own merit When she applies for a tourist visa, she must be able to STAND ON HER OWN MERIT, meaning she must OVERCOME THE PRESUMPTION that she will not return to Colombia. This is accomplished by showing financial, professional and family ties to Colombia, meaning stable job history, lots of money in the bank or owning property in Colombia and having strong family ties to Colombia. Without those things the visa has over a 90% chance of denial.

I have posted this before but I will say it again. I am an American citizen living in Colombia and my wife is Colombian. She applied for a tourist visa and my being married to her made no difference. She had to show she had stable employment, show we had lots of money in the bank and that we owned property (our house). She got her visa but without the items I just mentioned, they would have denied her.

Hi I found a site that has a sample letter of Invitation.
I would recommend you notarize it before sending it ot the embassy.
