How come i can't find any imobiliarias on the net?

I was wondering that how come i can't find any immobiliaria that rents appartments in Cali on the internet? I googled for hours, but can't really find anything.....

Just lots of house selling, but hardly any renting. And what i found was too expensive! Don't tell me that the average rent in cali is $1500 usd? And I thought Amsterdam was expensive.......

Sunday paper...your best imobiliaria.....but if you want short term that's what AB is listing..if you go here in the paper and find something to rent...they'll want probably 1 year...and thus the price is lower...

It's tough to find people that will rent in Colombia, even if you pay it all up front. It's been discussed here many times....(the owner is ultimately responsible for phone, electric, water, etc...and damaged property rarely ever gets fixed...thus owners are really not all that motivated)

Frank is correct. Renting a furnished apartment is not that easy to do. Colombians for the most part are reluctant to do this. Probably their biggest fear is that people will run off with everything in the apartment. I have rented a few apartments here in Medellin but they were not furnished. Yes I got them pretty cheap. But I had to furnish them. Absolutely nothing was in the apartment. No light bulbs, no shower heads and no hot water. I had to buy a hot water heater myself and hire someone to clean the apartment. Sure I got a deal but at what price? If you knew someone who knew someone you could like share a house with a Colombian family. You would get a good deal but you would be under their scrutney 24/7. For the most part you have only three choices if you are not planning to stay long term and don't have a family or friend you can stay with. A hotel, a hostel or renting an apartment at gringo prices. Another thing, you will be very hard pressed to find an apartment from a local that has internet.

I had to have 3 co-signers to rent my first apartment here. They all had to show where they worked and have these documents notoriced. What a big pain. I only paid around $250 USD for my first apartment here and had to go through all of this. No they would not take 6 months rent. I did go through a real estate company for all of this.

As mentioned before, sometimes if you only take a room at a hotel for one day you can negotiate a better price for a week for example in person. Or look through some of the people who have offered rooms and apartments for rent here on PBH.

I live in Cali and have had no problem renting higher end apartments without co-signors. I know several other gringos that have did the same. Usually you have to find a motivated owner. I am talking nicer apartments. 1.3 million and up. There are two kinds of owners here for these type of rentals....ones that don't care if they rent their apartment and the ones that need the money.

It takes a little longer to find these owners but they are out there. You can get some good deals on penthouse apartments. You can find owners that will deal. Think about it for a minute. How many Colombians want to rent a penthouse in Cali? I wouldn't say that many. If they have that kind of money they are going to buy something normally.

I know a gringo that tried to rent a penthouse type apartment and offered to pay the rent up front! For a full year. Over 25 million pesos. And the place really wasn't in that good of shape either. The owner took two weeks to say no. Now this owner didnt need the money.

Now the guys that answered earlier are correct about furnished apartments being difficult to rent. Some of the prices are exhorbitant for the crappy furniture that they have.

If in Cali you could go aronund and walk looking for signs on the windows´s apartments, some people don´t put adds on the newspaper but at the renting place or local bakery or drugstore.

Or you might try

Check neighborhood hospitals, often neighborhood locals place small ads near the cafeteria. Sounds crazy but it works. Many times the desk clerk at the main desk also may know of apartments for rent. They rent to the families who are visiting patients.

I found a 350 meter house with 3 car garage and 1250 meters of yard. Simply paid 6 months in advance, Rented for one year month to month. Now buying. It takes a bit of looking. But, as a friend of mine here says "all is possible in Colombia" joe
