How come Colombians do not like pretzels?

Pretzels are very popular in the US.
They go great with beer, and better for you then potatoe chips.

You cannot even buy pretzels in Exito or Carafour in Colombian.

"potato," m'dear. (Don't worry, Dan Quayle did the same thing!)

And I have no idea about the pretzel shortage. I'm not sure I've seen pretzels anywhere I've been in Latin America that I recall..

Colombians aren't into beer like the gringos are. I had a number of colombians ask me what the big deal is about gringos sitting around drinking beer (and seeming proud of it). I never have an answer for them

Tinto there is/was quite a bit of German influence in Colombia,so that theory doesn't hold.

I think the hard pretzels are nasty, the soft ones aren't bad.

Eating pretzels in Colombia is only done in.... very special ceremonies which most Colombians are not even aware of... and at these pretzel eating ceremonies they are washing down the pretzels with root beer... a beverage not historically consumed in Colombia because most Colombians, if they have tried root beer, say it tastes like toothpaste.

GIB, How many brands of root beer are on sale in the north of Bogota to wash down those Boli Quesos? Barq's, Hires, A&W, Hansens, Snapple, Thomas Kemper, Mug, IBC, Stewarts, Blue Sky, Barq Diet, A&W Diet, etc.?

Can you buy root beer floats at the local soda fountain?

sorry, I almost always agree with you, but every gathering I go to in the US, people talk about beer constantly, do Colombians have keg-parties?, what about that funnel-thing with the tube? How many Colombians have beer bellies? and are proud of them? Most I talk to talk more about aguardiente or whiskey, but like I also said, a lot of my students, Colombians, asked me why the gringos are so into beer. Come to think of it whenever I run into t gringo here in Colombia or even on this page and we start talking, they almost always talk about having a beer. It`s more social amongst the gringos than the colombianos. Colombians don't have sayings like "16 ounce curls" and "beer belly".

Social Beer Drinking There are few exceptions to the fact that almost no one I know in the U.S. drinks beer.

I don’t drink and the girl I’m with HATES drinking. I’ve seen her drink less than 6 beers in 4 years and I’d guess about 12 for me. I’ve never seen her drink any other alcoholic beverages. Her deceased husband was a heavy drinker, smoker, womanizer and drug user,, a mean and abusive drunk. You need to SEE and LIVE with an addict to appreciate the effect it has on family life.

America ranks 11th in the world for per capital consumption of beer. Some charts indicate less is consumed.

The U.S. consumption is spread out across the social economic spectrum,, where as in Colombia it appears to be more concentrated in the lower spectrum.

I liked the quote he had on the page:

The state is that great fiction by which everyone tries to live at the expense of everyone else.

Beer consumption
A local young man was killed in a moto wreck traveling at night to a village about 15 miles away. He had been drinking and ran off the road. Next day I found out he was not drunk and probably went to sleep or made a fatal error.

Asked how many beers he’d drank,,he only had 8 beers,, EIGHT BEERS !!!!, how many do you think it takes to be drunk? 30,, Thirty,, I guess he would be drunk !!!

This might explain how they can still walk:

Colombian cost as shown,, U.S. sized 70 cents a can if bought in a case or so I was told. I guess beer isn’t cheaper if bought at a grocery store but I’d bet Hooters charges a premium.

Panaderia maxli. There is one on 85 and 20 close to the thransmilenio station..

beer..oh my god! Colombians drink beer like crazy.. it is not unusual to find places with tables full of bottles of beer to keep the count... Remeber, beer is the cheapest alcoholic beverage, unless you drink chicha, guarapo or homemade overproof rum in the coast...

Besides beer, what tend to be the favorite drinks in Colombia?

bufalo says on Mar 2, 2006, 17:22:

Ok, maybe I should have highlighted (or written in caps) the word INTO. I wasn't really talking about consumption. What I meant to say is that the typical beer drinkning gringo can go on (boringly)for a while about certain tastes, colors, all sorts of brands from around the world.... When I see Colombians drinking beer, they just tend to drink it. the guys are more concerned about getting a piece than how educated they are beer wise. Look at how many micro-breweries there are in the US. What about those home beer kits? Again, it was several of my students from different classes who asked me this, all of them spent time in the states and noticed it as well. (They also asked me what the big deal was calling a black man "nigger" - that one took a while).

Cheapest way to get drunk Lucia? Lets See, 9 Pilsen for about 9,000 cop, takes you a bit of time to drink 9 beers.
Media Aguadiente for about 9,000 cop does the job in record time, well maybe a bit if you have to take 24, 1/2oz shots from the tiny plastic cup but 12, 1oz shots with the mandatory 12 chugs of water........

Now why do gringo sit around and drink beer. Well hell, we don't really have much experience taking shots of liquer. Maybe I guess Tequila but Rum? Hell we just sip it when we enjoy our whiskey straight up. The vast majority of our liquer training is with mixed drinks. Hell mixed drinks..... what a sign of weakness. Everyone around you is taking shot of rum or aguadiente. So you show your lameness by choaking down a mixed drink, suffer through those first few shots until you think you are actually liking it or you just have a beer in you hand.

There is also the possibility that those gringos sitting around have a lot of time to spend and nursing some beers along keeps you conscious enough to chat up the eye candy.

Funny I saw mention of a beer bong is a prev thread. 2 nights ago, a Sun, at a known for being packed on Sun club. I mentioned to a friend, "this party needs a beer bong"! Oh by the way I was drinking rum and cokes, the lame ass mixed drink.........
