Anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced mid-range hotel in the north of Bogota?
I'm currently at the Platypus, which is fine, but I'm on vacation and don't necessarily feel like doing the hosteling thing...
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Tinto (Moderator) (Trustee board) says on Aug 3, 2004, 16:27: Inflation or the Gringo tax? I called the Hotel San Simon recently to get a quote. Over the last two years they charged $94000 to $98000 COP plus 7% IVA for a room (suite, no smoking, queen bed, small fridge, recently renovated, modern bathroom but no tina). Now they are quoting $140000 COP plus IVA. The general inflation rate in Colombia is about 6%, nowhere near the 40 plus percent increase in the hotel room. :-(

tommytoyz says on Oct 27, 2005, 18:02: Sunshine All these hotels are very close to each other and in a good area. Right in the entertainment district. The Windsor looks quite nice from the outside, but I hear the rooms are smallish and some with small windows - but nice hotel never the less. I walked in front of it. It's also walking distance from Los Urapanes. I like Los Urapanes the best, from my personal experience and from what I've seen.

Angel_Gabriel says on Oct 29, 2005, 07:16: North Country Two good options in the north - near a park on 100-something & near some clubs/bars & stricly pickup bars for sexy bogotanas- in 90-something, completely within walking distance. The Hotel Charlotte (www.charlotehoteles.com)runs for about 119,000 pesos & the probably better suited the Hotel Colonial on the same block & as the previous one, it's like in the middle of the block & lot more private.

It's in zona rosa, great location. cost about 95-105k peso/night NO GUEST FEE! free breakfast in your room, free internet, very safe. OHH it's an apartment style hotel, basically a suite(living room, kitchen, bedroom).

cdn says on Oct 29, 2005, 20:14: cdn I recently stayed at the Charlotte and liked it a lot. It's an older hotel, but I kind of prefer that. My wife thought it smelled a little funny though. The location is great, the staff are really friendly, the coffee shop and restaurant look onto a little park, great for people-watching. The 119000 pesos previously mentioned sounds about right, and includes breakfast. If you book ahead, ask for a 2nd floor room with a terrace. The price is the same, but the higher floors don't have balconies. Cheers.

iantroy says on Jun 16, 2007, 13:28: Not so sweet, suites 85 I stayed at Suites 85 last year and was generally pleased. HOWEVER, my fiancee made a reservation three weeks in advance of a planned stay this year. She reconfirmed with Suites 85 several times including immediately prior to the start of a planned WEEK stay at quoted weekly rates. When we arrived at the hotel about 9 PM, we were told that a guest in our reserved room was holding over and that no substitute accomodations were available. They said that we could stay at a noncomparable room in Suites 97 for a night or so at daily rate, then switch back to Suites 85 if and when it became available. I asked if the weekly rate would apply as promised previously. They said no, that we would have to pay regular room rate at Suites 97 for a night or so at full cost, then pay daily rates, not prorated weekly rates if we were to come back to Suites 85. We decided that they would lose our business at that point. They did not offer to comp our taxi service to another hotel either. A lot of disruption and lack of service that added "in" to the hospitality industry as in "inhospitable". Definitely NOT recommended unless you wanted to chance sleeping outside for a night.

getting better says on Jul 5, 2007, 14:35: We usually put people at Caviar. It lacks atmosphere but they are quite accomodating with us wanting a light breakfast at 4.30AM, and things like that, which for us is more important than luxury because we need reliable good service for clients. If people want something very cheap then Hotel Internacional in Candalaria, if they want something a bit better then Dann Carlton.
