Hotels in Cali

Hi guys! I am planning a trip to Cali during the Feria in December and I need some advice on hotels. I have been to Cali several times but I have always stayed with in someones house so I have never paid attention to hotels. Of course, the only things I can find online are the Intercontinental...a little out of the budget. What are some cheaper, but still decent options, say close to Unicentro...thanks!

Hi, we stayed in Granada Real which is right in the main bar area (1 blobk back). It costs 56000 pesos for a small room incl taxes and bkfst. It is also very close to Chippi chappy

Hotels in Cali I'll be spending December in Cali also. Personally I perfer the Intercontinental for stays of less than two weeks. If I'm staying more than two weeks I usually stay at Traveler's Suites or Suites House.

I don't know what your price range is but the intercontinental is a value at about $70 a night. Don't pay for your rooms on the internet. Just call the Hotels directly and it will be much cheaper.

It sounds like you are going to party so I would have to question your decision to stay in the south close to Unicentro. The Feria de Cali is great but the action is in the North.

If you are dead set on staying in the south I would recommend the Pacifico Hotel. But, It's just as nice and just as expensive as the Inter.

I don't know what your attraction to Unicentro is but you can walk to it very easily from the Pacifico Hotel. Personally I think Chipichape is a nicer mall.

Im also planning to go to Cali for the Feria season, reading the Lonely Planet guide and also asking the owner of Platypus (great hostel in Bogotá) I know about two pñlaces, never been ther but are higly recomemnded and cheap, i think they are close ot the center.
One is called Iguana Hostal, run by a swiss woman, their email is iguana_cali at yahoo.com, their phone number is 57-2-6613522 and the other one is calidad Guest House, both charge 26.000 pesos per nigth for a a doble room.

next year this time you might want to check out Desi's B&B. I have just applied for a year's leave of absence from my job (65% of the salary) to set up the thing,

I am also going to Cali this December... and would like to know if anyone has any further information on the two hostels that angieraes mentions (Iguana and Calidad). Are they close to all the Feria fun?

D.

calipro says on Oct 15, 2004, 17:50:

Please don't make us gringos look bad in Cali.

You don't really want to stay in a place that costs about $10 bucks a night for a double do you.

I have never been to the two places mentioned but anything close to the center is a bad idea IMHO.

I did met a greek guy that was staying in a Hotel that cost 10,000 pesos a night. It was only a single and not a double and it was disgusting.

"Are they close to all the Feria fun?"

Sure just buy yourself a cheap bottle of aguadiente and hang out on the street corner. Or you could go to the tasca de musica but the food, drinks and admission will probably run you more than your hotel room.

i really dont know how many you want to spend, i`m from cali so y know some things about the place, the intercontinental is a good hotel, but i prefer the pacifico royal, is not close to the center of the city, but is very good, is kind of expencive for people from colombia, but i think that is a good price for the people from the USA, and make the reservations from the phone, no the internet it is cheaper by the phone, it doesent matter that is far from the feria events, but the city is not that big, so you can get a taxi for 6000 or 7000 pesos is something like 2 or 3 dollars, sorry about mi english is quite bad

Have seen the hostel Calidad House and it's nice, on the same scale as Platypus. It's in the upscale barrio Granada on Av Novena just a few blocks from the hotel Granada Real and a couple of blocks away from Av Sexta. The owner Dave is a young British guy. You can't do any better as far as location. I'd like to know where Desidira's place is. I recall it being midtown? Maybe a good location for people who want to be nearer the south end. The Inter and Pacifica Royal are very expensive by any standards except those of rich gringos.

Desideria (Moderator) says on Oct 22, 2004, 05:18:

Desi's B&B will be located in the near south, barrio El Lido, but really close to the Fifth.
A very good location for people who want to be near downtown and southern neighborhoods, the universities, and Unicentro and Cosmocentro malls. The neighborhood itself is non-commercial, arbored and quiet.
Cheers,
Desi

If I may ask Why do you want to stay in a hotel if you have always stayed in someones house? Staying with friends or family sounds comfortable.

Desi was... the contact info for your B&B posted before? I don't remember seeing it. I have often had people ask me where to stay in the south end of Cali who weren't up for the Pacifica Royal.

Don't Worry Hi,
Im from Cali, right now Im in the US but I'll be going to Cali to la feria also.
I think you made an excellent choice with Casa del Alferez, its a small but beautiful hotel close to where all the fun is. There's a placed very near that is calle Casa de la cerveza (House of the beer), very nice place.

Good Luck in Cali! :D

Desi's B&B - nice! This is first time I heard the term B&B here, are they common in Colombia? When traveling in Europe I prefered to stay at B&B's and eat out at small restaurants to learn the the local cooking. So far I have only known about rooms for rent or hotels. Please let me know when you are up and running, Desi.

Would Colombians be interested in being able to eat true international food like Granny cooks in Europe? I ran a small restaurant for that kind of food in Germany quite successfully, mainly German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Greek. I asked a few Colombian friends, but they said they wouldn't know.

Desi's B&B El Lido, two blocks from the Fifth, in the vicinity of Conjunto Residencial Pio XII.

Wherever you go ... just don't ever stay in the "Valle Real". They rip you off wherever they can and it's very loud.

Hotels in Cali Anyone traveling to Cali should check out Cali Plaza; (Some information here copied from Cali Plaza website: www.CaliPlaza.com. Cali Plaza is an Apartment/Condominium building with Rental Suites. It is American Owned and one of the most convenient locations in Cali:
Over 50 Restaurants, Bars, and Discotecs within walking distance. 3 ATM’s within 1/2 block. Travel Agencies, Grocery and Convenience Stores, and Laundries nearby. Almost everything you need within walking distance. Cali Plaza is ideally located in the middle of the Tourist and Entertainment District of Sixth Avenue in Cali, Colombia S.A. ...also located a few blocks from Downtown and Business District. (Check out their photo section at CaliPlaza.com and you can view the rooms and see the convenience of their location.)

Most everyone visiting Cali, visits Sixth Avenue; ... Staying in the middle of this area is convenient, plus saves time and money spent on transportation.

Cali Plaza Administrator and Owner both speak English, therefore many Americans hang out there. ... For any of you wanting marriage visas or information, Gonzalo Services is located in Cali Plaza. They do more visas in Cali, than anyone else.
