Hotels in Bogota

Can someone tell me where I can find some cheap hotels in Bogota? Preferebly somewhat close to the embassy. Is there a certain part of the city I should look in? I don´t want to spend more than 80k pesos a night. I´ll only be staying for 2 nights.

Or even a hostal if I can get a private room with bathroom.

Sapo, I´m not going to renew my colombian visa.

Casona del Patio. http://www.lacasonadelpatio.net/02_english/rooms.html It's a little more than what you want to spend but it's a decent place (clean, shower, internet, friendly staff). I've stayed there twice and the area seems good(G zone). I don't know if it's close to the embassy but I don't imagine a cab ride will set you back too much. They have a couple of the staff that speak some english if your spanish is not the best. Send them an email and they should be able to tell you how close they are to the embassy. It's about a 15 to 20 minute taxi ride from the airport with no traffic. The only bad thing with the hotel is that you hear every noise and the beds are a little small if you're 6 ft and up. (minor stuff).

Thanks for the help so far.

Why does the casona del patio have prices in usd? Anytime I see a price in usd I automatically think it´s overpriced for what it is. I also don´t require english speaking staff nor internet.

Casona del patio is overpriced and has been for a while, sorry ujay -- stop by and check yourself.

I looked MrAnderson, but I couldn't find anything, but there are cheap hotels near the embassy. It's not a frequently visited area so most travel guides won't have anything. I have seen in airline magazines some great deals for accommodations and flights to stay by the embassy. You will find something.

Thanks durito. Mainly I just want to find a good area where I will have luck finding a cheap hotel, something comparable to la 70 in medellin. I thought that most hotels near the embassy were expensive. I don´t plan on booking ahead of time but maybe it´s a good idea. I´ll be getting there monday night so I don´t imagine many no vacancies.

Azunoman, I´m going to the american embassy and this requires me to be there in person. And I´m actually looking forward to the trip. Thanks for the tip on the versay hotel but do you have any more specifics? An address for example? After all, it´s a pretty big city.

you can find tons of cheap hotels in la candelaria just showing up but it's a ways from the embassy. might be worth it depending on how many times you have to cab it over there. i can suggest a few places there if you want

Can´t vouge for it but there is a hotel I always see coming back from the airport on the 26 con Boyaca northern side of the 26 eastern side of the Boyaca called Hotel El Puente. Looks like an inexpensive Colombian business traveler hotel. I´m sure it´s in your price range from the looks of it and it is 5 minutes from the embassy.

El virrey looks nice but it´s a bit out of my price range. I´ll need double occupancy.

I sent an email to the platypus hotsel but ´ve never stayed at a hostel before so what is it like? Is it noisy, many people coming and going? Like a party atmosphere or more relaxed? I´ll be leaving for medellin very early in the morning so I´ll be looking for a good night sleep. Also a place with motorcycle parking is ideal.

Pavo, thanks for the suggestion..I`ll keep that in mind.

Casa de Huespedes Dona Flor. Barrio Quinto Paredes. Right by the embassy. She rents rooms with breakfast. I posted her phone number and address here on PBH somehere? Somebody help me find it? There are other places like her by the embassy and only a few, rather expensive, Hotels, right there.

I think most people are pleased with Dona Flor and she has been doing this for years now.

Lodging near US Embassy Bogota.
If you are in need of lodging in Bogota by the embassy I recommend Dona Flor's Guest House located just about 100 meters from the entrance to the US Embassy for visas. She owns a large house and rents 6 rooms many with private bath and hot water. Her price includes breakfast and there are some nice pastry shops aand restaurants right by her place.

If you need someone who speaks English call Midia at 011-57-1-269-2530 who will let Dona Flor know you want to stay there.

Dona Flor charges around $50 a night but she may bargain if your stay is for an extended period. This is the best place I know of if you have to go to the embassy and this place is about 7.5 minutes from the airport. She can have her taxi man friend pick you up. He is very friendly as he gave us a tour of BOG one day in his van. She is located basically between North Bogota and the business center and Candaleria. Taxis and buses pass right up the street from her house and she can direct you to the right bus to get where you may have to go if you prefer to avoid taxis.

Very friendly lady and very good place to stay.

Dona Flor's son is there so you don't need to call Midia or Claudia but the first two numbers I posted above since her son speaks English.

Close to airport and 100 yrds/mtrs from US Embassy for visa seekers! This was my post from a while back.....give her a call...

Thanks sanandressi..that´s some great info, although it´s a little out of my price range. Around 50 usd per night is about 110.000 pesos? I don´t need to stay right next door to the embassy. I´m assuming I´ll be able to find bus service to get me there..or maybe I can ride my moto there? My appointment is for 1pm so I don´t need to rush there first thing in the morning.

I´m assuming that most hotels or rooms for rent that are right next to the embassy have a slight mark up. Especially if they are advertising towards foriegners, or visa seekers.

Thanks pavo..

I´m in the "pareja" category so it jumps to 100k pesos per night. I don´t understand why it´s double price....do I get 2 rooms?

mranderson says on May 21, 2009, 11:27:

Although it´s worth a shot...I can always try to negociate the pareja price down towards the single price.

Give them a call and make your offer. Who knows, maybe they will take 160.000 for two nights.

Thanks for all the help...

I ended up staying at a cheap 25k peso per night hotel in centro. It was nicer than I imagined it would be, the bathroom left a lot to be desired but it was clean. They even let me park my moto inside the hotel (there was a small storage space). Prostitutes and homeless were right out back at times but they didn´t bother me as I was coming or going.

I checked out several hotels by the embassy but they were all asking way too much.
