Hotels in Bogota?

I'm headed to Bogota real soon, two weeks - yippee! and i'd like to surprise my boyfriend by taking him to romantic hotel for a couple of nights, does anyone have any suggestions for somewhere nice, and not to expensive?? and if its possible to make reservations online? Thanks & all the best!

Nice hotel in Bogota The casa dann Carlton in north Bogota is quiet nice and doesn't cost a fortune. The four points Sheraton is also nice. If you plan on going outside of Bogota I know a lovely typical Colombian restaurant which also has rooms at which you can stay. Its near to Zipaquira so also a nice day out. its open frday-sunday and the website is www.casamuseolaquinta.com

Hotel De La Ville This is a small, but nice hotel on Avenida 100 at Kra 13. It has a "french" style decor. My novia and I stayed there in late september and thought it was great for the price. Its not the pinnacle of luxury, but very nice and clean. It is very well located and the staff was great.

We got a true suite with a good size separate living room and two full bathrooms for $829.000 COP for 4 nights including all taxes and minibar. (Check in Fri- Check out Tue). This also includes breakfast. You may be quoted a higher rate as I called and spoke in spanish with a Colombian accent. If so, just tell them your friend got a special rate and recommended the hotel.

I also have to mention that they have great curtains that completely block out the sun and noise for when you feel like sleeping in a little.

All of these recommendation are excellent. It just depends upon your itinerary. We also have stayed at the http://www.hotelesestelar.com/php/plantillaHotel.php?hotel=-2.

WE stayed there twice for a month each time. One thing I would like to point out is that the complex is actually administered by three different entities. Basically you can rent an apartment at three different prices depending on which rental office you contact. There are different items included in the prices. The more expensive units (and to me they look the same)are handled by the Hotel la Fontana. You can find one, two and three room suites.

We did notice that the adoption agencies place some of the foreign parents in these apartments. There is ample room for the children to move around in and outside of the rooms and get to know their new adopted parents. This is not to imply the place is overrun with children. Far from it. The place is a nice and safe place to stay when in Bogotá.

$264 US a night. Can't be correct. But my wife, who is Colombian, did make the reservation and they did not know we were in the States.

My picks....... 1. La Fontana.....
You cannot argue with this one. It's really nice. Lots of comfort and amenities. It close to tourist areas and shopping on the north side.

2. Someone mentioned Dann. There are a few I would reccomend. Both on Cr 15. The Dann Carlton at about 103 and La 15, and the other is at 115 and la 15.

3. As to the reccomendation for the Tequendama.....forget it. It's in the central area.....not the safest place to go walking around if your Colombian......even less safer if you're a tourist. Don't even consider it. Also,it is too far from the north side. And lastly, while you may want to visit the central area, I can't imagine any reason why you would want to stay there unless you have a specific reason to stay there.

There are other places, but those three are reasonable in price, and the quality is consistently good. Oh sure there are more luxurious hotels, but....you will pay more too.Hotels Charleston and Casa Medina come to my mind.......They are wondeful and very luxurious. Plan on spending over 200 a night for these......but they are nice and have some rooms that are so luxurious, you may not want to leave them.

Oh yea.... I don't want to walk anywhere in Bogota. That must be it. I am sure I said that somewhere didn't I? Here we go....PBH at its best again.

Look, you can say what you want, but anyone who knows anything at all about Bogota....(and I do mean anything) will tell you if you are tourist, vistior, or whatever, you don't tell someone to stay in the cento. For what? The centro is soooooo far from most things, especially night life.

I'll ask this question my man, if the centro was the best part of Bogota to stay in, then why are all the real fine hotels on the north side and not in the centro? Do you have an answer for that? Of course not. Staying in the Tequendama makes no sense at all. All the better malls are north, restaurants are north, night life ...north, etc etc. And yes, Mr Security minded G5 will tell you that it is much safer in the north and I could not care how many police you see. The centro is the centro.....a cesspool of street crime. And Bogotas fines can smell a tourist, especially a Gringo tourist in a hot second

ok g5 I'm not saying u r wrong i know u r right all the best things are in the north part, all i'm saying i stayed there and grabbed a taxi and partied in the North part of Bogota, had no problems with anybody, probably do things different next time like stay at the suitereal or some other place, close to zona rosa; but just my personnel exp. course I never have any problems where ever i go., but u r right it's not best location but prices are a little lower maybe,as for as shopping i went to the huge mall they have up North part of Bogota 3 levels really big shopping center (centro de comercial)thinks that's right ,anyway next time i'm going to Cali instead lol .mostly spanish
people not alot of english spoken there(tequendama) so if talk to anyone u probably have to do it in spanish, i did walk around the area freely for blocks at a time and checked the shops out people are not very friendly but no one messed with me and when they did talk to me a i shot answers back in spanish, saw some fuera gringo or yankee signs lol

As to the reccomendation for the Tequendama.....forget it. Gomezman5 is correct about this hotel. While it is a nice facility, it not in a "convenient" area for visitors to Bogotá. If you want to attend the nice restaurant there you can always take a taxi from a hotel in the North.

Every time I suggest to my wife that we might like to stay there her reaction is absolutly not.

Hotels in the north side tend to be more convenient to most places and in general safer to simply walk around anywhere, but Tequendama is quite close to Macarena district which is one of the most hip places to go out for dinner in town. If you stay in Tequendama you can be quite safe if you walk north bound from the hotel and quite unsafe if you walk southbound especially if you stay on 10th avenue. For tourists sake downtown has most of the ammenities, Museo Nacional is just across the street, so is Museo de Arte Moderno and you can walk safely to Transmilenio station and head to La Candelaria very easily. Also you are on a 5 minute taxi ride from Monserrate. Having said that I would tend to stay in the north side as there are more clubs and bars if that is what you are looking for, with the exception of Cha Cha which is a very trendy club a block away from Tequendama, most are in the north side.

Now for romantic and nice dinner out if money is no concern I would stay at Casa Medina where you can have a fire place in your room and I would go for dinner at one of the Gzone restaurants just next door. Prices in Bogota vary greatly from weekday to weekend, I have had lots of trouble accomodating business acquaintances and prices tend to stay around the 200 USD per night, while in weekend I have seen then around 50-100 USD .

Have stayed at... ...the Casa Medina. It has an old world feel to it. Similar to what one might expect in a stuffy British all mens club. I say this in the best sense of the word. Not at all like the Platypus.

I liked it and believe most North Americans would feel pampered there. Not inexpensive but as mentioned above you can find specials there especially if you get a Colombian doing the negotiations.

I think... I read it was 234 US buckaroos on La Fontana´s website.

I am in the neigborhood, so I will go there myself and find out how much they are asking.

It´s a sunny day in Bogota today.... I think I brought the sunshine with me :)

hotel rooms in Bogota In case you may want to get away from the hotel scene, my g/f rents out her apartment or rooms. Rooms go from $25 to $35 a night. The $35 room is a Master bedroom complete with 3 piece bath and a balcony. If the other two rooms are not rented you get the use of the entire apartment. Check it out at welovebogota.com

PS.

I agree with the post by Vincent noting Suitereal in Zona Rosa. Very classy hotel with a great rates. Although I should mention that I had a friend stay just last month and he had money stolen from him. It was kept in their safe and I guess the night "assistant manager" made off with it. They would not give him his money back but offered to apply it to his room. So my friend stayed there for much of his time in Bogota.
