No it isnt true, do make a reservation. Barranquilla gets very crowded during the carnival you wont want to get there and realize youve got no place to go. Plus getting a room is only a click away, it isnt going to kill you ;)

If you believe that...be prepared to sleep in the streets, or some slumlike place far away from anything.

Unless you KNOW someone there, and even that is a far reach at this point, you may stumble onto something, such paying to stay in someone's house or an odd apartment at high rates.

Most, if not all, of the best or decent hotels are booked solid. Just spoke to a friend who was at the airport picking up her relatives. The airport's already a madhouse. Music, drinks, dancing already in full swing at the airport with many people also awaiting their relatives' arrival.

Increible Barranquilla Carnaval is second only to Rio...I have been here a week and will be here one more...I made the reservations months ago...Whoever told you that reservations are not needed needs a checkup from the neck up.

Good Luck
Barranquilla does not have that many hotels as it is for the size of the city. Look at the paginas amarillos (yellow pages) online and see if you can find something. From a personal experience, I would not reccomend the hotel dorado unless you do not mind having mice in your room.
Good Luck!

you will need reservations i would suspect that the incorrect information you received, was the result of a drug induced hallucination. ex is from baq and i know for a fact, from experience, that carnival is mayhem.

Bottom line, if you can make a reservation, make it. At this late time, I seriously doubt you'll find anything decent, but you may truly luck into something. Most places were wanting deposits for rooms since December, and were booked out back then.
