The beach area where high rise hotels lay at, and the old city where the afternoon and night action is at. The higher end hotels are within the old city and the most famous are the Santa Clara from the French hotel chain Accor and the Charleston Santa Teresa. Both are very nice, the latter one slightly better located within the old city, but the first one is a larger and little bit nicer. I have a personal favourite called the Agua Bed and Breakfast, the name says nothing but it is a very chic, very up market tiny hotel in the middle of the action of the old city. The Santa Clara owns and island about an hour from Cartagena is the middle of coral reefs, with its own hotel called San Pedro de Majagua. Also very nice. In the beach area the nicest ones are the Hotel Almirante, in the heart of the busiest beaches and the Hilton at the end of the bay area, a little bit off the action. Any how where ever you stay you are never too far away, nothing a 2 dollar taxi ride can not fix. Barranquilla´s traditional hotel is Hotel del Prado, but I have recently stayed at Puerta del Sol which is also really nice.

There are also some private apartments in Boca Grande that are really nice. If you would like some info on these penthouses send me a email here at this site. I think B'quilla has many different options. I will get some info for you if you need it. Suerte.

This is a list of hotels, good ones, along the Bocagrande beach where most of the large discos are also located:

They're both excellent, althought the Almirante is just a typical beachfront highrise. The Santa Clara has character and charm and elegance, and although it's not right on the beach and it's not right next to the best rumbas, it's definitely the coolest big hotel in the city. But why choose? I'd stay at both, and then try some of the smaller hotels suggested here. And as mentioned, Bocagrande and the old city aren't real big, and you're never more than a short, cheap taxi ride from anything, so don't worry too much about location.
