la Boheme right in zona rosa is great. Not sure if it is under $100/night though?

Charlotte on 15 near 86 was just renovated, price has been going up, but used to be a great deal at about $50/night. Now I think it is more like $70 or more?

There is a more modest lifestyle if you are interested... An average hotel, at any given location, can be had at 1/8 of that price. You could feed four families of four for two weeks, if you stay 3 nights. Or you could stay with a trusted family of a friend, and pay 1/12 that price, feeding closer to six families of four for two weeks, if you stay 3 nights. Or if you would rather think of it another way, you could save 200,000 pesos a night, which is more than half the minimum wage paid in a month. Save that for a few nights, and you could employee two young high-school (sometimes college, quiver) educated colombians for a month. And they will show you some real 'trips'.

Please do not take offense - just desperately seeking to characterize what the Colombians I know feel about people like us. Please understand, and rethink things on this forum, and your travel behavior in Colombia - Colombians are reading it, and watching us carefully.

More practically, I can find you a family to stay with if you would like. Or give advice on the hotels outside of the 72-100 bubble zone.

Hotels Around the Zona rosa, I know there's a few of them but right now I can think of the Andino Royal which is a few blocks away, near a lot of shopping and the mall Andino Plaza. The other one, only a block away from Andino Royal and again, blocks away from the zona rosa. Also in the area is a big grocery store, Carulla, plenty of places to eat, and shopping.

A hotel that was recommended to me, and turned out to be very nice, was the Suites Real 85. Walking distance to Zona Rosa. I believe I paid $51 US a night. The staff is very friendly, professional. Two room suites with nice bathroom and kitchenette. www.suitesreal.com 57-1-218-0100, carrera 18, 84-56

Morrison Try also the Morrison, it is one of the least expensive out of the nicer hotels in the Zona Rosa.

Domestic Flights Is there any program at present where one can buy some kind of multi-trip flight pass within Colombia prior to going there? Or is one limited to buying Avianca tickets one at a time for hops around the country? Any suggestions. FWIW, I have been in Colombia five times, once in 1974 and four times since April 2005. My wife and I are going there for two weeks right after Thanksgiving (i.e., November 25-Dec. 9). What a wonderful place!

Hotel De La Ville This is a small, but nice hotel on Avenida 100 at Kra 13. It has a "french" style decor. My novia and I stayed there in late september and thought it was great for the price. Its not the the pinnacle of luxury, but quite nice and clean. It is very well located and the staff was great.

We got a true suite with a good size separate living room and two full bathrooms for $829.000 COP for 4 nights including all taxes and minibar. (Check in Fri- Check out Tue). This also includes breakfast. You may be quoted a higher rate as I called and spoke in spanish with a Colombian accent. If so, just tell them your friend got a special rate and recommended the hotel.

I also have to mention that they have great curtains that completely block out the sun and noise for when you feel like sleeping in a little.

Domestic Flights I purchased my latest tickets as multi-stop tickets on travelocity. From North Carolina to Bogota then 4 days later to Cali (via Avianca) it was the same as a single flight from NC to Cali (the 4 day stopover in Bogota was essentially free)

HOW ARE THE ACOUSTICS (SUITESREAL)? I'm used to some noise from travels in Spain and Latin America but never like to be on top of a disco or next to a busy street/ expressway. The Suites Real look really nice from the web-site and of considerable value. I'm hoping the inside and outside acoustics are good. Hopefully I'll be in La Zona Rosa Bogota in a couple weeks time for a week or so.

Thank you for the post and any extra info. you might have.

When I stayed at the Suites Real, it was dead quiet. I believe it was a Sunday and Monday night. But they don't have a bar there, and there is not a bar within 300 meters of the place - or more. The closest business is around the block, and it is a nice grocery store. Anyway, it is a very quiet hotel. It is a half block off a main road. The street that it is on is almost like a little neighborhood street with very little traffic. As a matter of fact, the street that the hotel is on has so little traffic, we couldn't hail a cab. We had to get the security guard to call one for us. We stayed on the 3rd floor, and I remember noticing how quiet the hotel was.
