Miss Colombia I can't recomend a cheap hostel/hotel, I will that to other members.

But be carefull which week you choose in November, if you choose the same week as Miss Colombia, you will probably find it more expensive and generaly less honouring of bookings made in advance.

I stayed At Hostal Santo Domingo a few times. Good location in old city. Around $18-$20 a night. Can find info on it at Cartagenainfo.com

Mrs. Gator Has.... a new favorite in the Old Walled City. No longer the 3 Banderas on Calle Cochera de Hobo but the Hostal San Diego on Calle de las Bóvedas. Double is $132.000 per night ($57.00 a night) Remodeled home built in 1789. Air conditioned and includes breakfast. A block from the Santa Clara. Very nice and VERY romantic.

Getsemani Generally it is OK by daylight, but you have to be aware of your surroundings, at night it is not that safe.

It is next to Centro on one side to roughly 10 mins walk at the furthest point from Centro.

not the Caribe I had the pleasure to stay 3 nights at the "4-5 star" Caribe. What a joke. If that is 4-5 stars than I am a Walrus. I think the only reason it is 4-5 stars is because the A/C works and the employees have uniforms. It is a like an old Holiday Inn somewhere. Also, the macho-men at the desk (who stared my g/f down) tried to charge me to have her go up to my room for 15 minutes. In Philadelphia if someone in a cheap suit tried to charge me for watching the TV with my girlfriend...well you know. Anyway, I left that Hotel and went to the Del-Mar, which was nice/nicer, cheaper, sin goon-squad anti-girlfriend macho men.

Hotel in Cartagena In Cartagena I stayed at the Las Vellas in Bocogrande. Its right on the beach,no road in between as its on the North end of Bocogrande where the road turns away from the beach.I paid 130,000 pesos 3/2004.
The hotel is maybe 25 years old and not redecorated. But the location is Excellent.
Or you can contact Juan Ventura, you will find him on a google search. He is a Spanyard that manages apartments.8/2004 we paid $55 a night for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment, nicely furnished accross the road from the beach in Laguna.
Prices VARY ALOT depending on when you go.They are highest in Late December early January. That 2br 2ba brings $155 then.

Hostel San Diego Mrs. Gator,

Thank you for posting the information about the Hotels in the Old City. I am attending a wedding in Cartagena in Novemeber. We are looking for inexpensive hotels I am interested in those you suggested. I cannot find any information on, "Hostal San Diego on Calle de las Bóvedas. Double is $132.000 per night ($57.00 a night) Remodeled home built in 1789. Air conditioned and includes breakfast. A block from the Santa Clara. Very nice and VERY romantic."

I was wondering if you could possibly offer a description of the hotel (does it look like the Tres Bandares, how does it compare?), give a number and perhaps if you have a website or any pictures of it can you send them. I do not want to make a booking without some more information and knowing what it looks like.

Thanks so much.
