Hotel Alcaravan Medellin

I just wanted to let people know of a great Hotel. The Hotel Alcaravan in Medellin is a very friendly, secure, safe and extreamly clean Hotel. They have a great restaurant, good and hot food at a reasonable price. The 6th floor is a party area. Pool table and bar with a hot tub and evening music. It have a great view of Poblado at night.
The hotel staff is friendly and always ready to help. The rooms have fans, large beds, shower with HOT water and cable TV. There is high speed Internet and an elevator.
The cost per night for two people is $24.00. It is a nice hotel for those looking for a less costly place to stay while visiting Medellin

Now, it´s not really located in Medellin, it´s located in Itagüi which is on the other side of the river and it´s a blue collar town. Not that it´s a problem or anything but this is the equivalent of staying in some parts of downtown Medellin and some parts of Itagüi (other people may say most of it) are not exactly safe.

Location info. near metro Ayura and la Mayorista.

Maybe not a good family hotel (attached to Mayorista) I don't know but for the single adventuresome traveler I would check it out on the next trip. Looks nice to me and the patio view sweet.

Is it inside Mayorista area near the street girls? This could cause prolems for some...

It is a nice clean affordable hotel. Not in the center of the city but nice and clean and very safe. There are street girls every where around Medellin. It is up to you if that is what your looking for. For the money you save in Hotel rent you can travel all over the city. I am simply letting every one know that has a concern for money it is a nice vlean, safe place to be. Bye the way, there were many families there with children.

Itagüi is not a safe place to be. Its in the south next to Envigado, but not nearly as safe (or as nice). Most murders in the south are commited in Itagüi (or Belen). I only go there if I want to buy good and inexpensive cloth (centro de la moda). For 24 USD a night you can get a nice hotel room or even an apartment downtown (e.g. Boston area). Not saying the hotel is bad or insecure as I don`t know it...just the area is not that good. As a newbie I would start staying in El Poblado, Envigado or Sabaneta!

Sounds good. Is it in the Mayorista "quad" with all the other establishments or off to the side? Either way appreciate the info., always looking for other lodging options down there.

There's probably 1,000 places to stay in MDE by now, between locally run places and new hotels/hostels/guesthouses run by foreigners. I'm really not that concerned about security, why I'm not sure, maybe cuz its my third time down here, now I'm not stupid either. I'm staying in Prado Centro and the cabby last night reminded me to be very careful just from the cab to my door, which couldn't have been more than 8 steps, and it was only 930. I've walked around alone pretty late, again i don't walk myself clearly into bad situations.

Matter of fact yesterday around lunch time, bright and sunny i was walking through some area i'd never been, just out for a walk, and i noticed it got a bti sketchy, there was a group of about 10-12 young guys, 2-3 were kinda hitting each other. My thought was...i have no real reason to walk by them, and why would i, same practice as at home, don't walk through a fight or you're liable to end up in 1.

Point being, is i'm sure there are some less safe area in Medellin, but I don't think i'd stay away from a nice place, as this one seems to be, because of it. Best bet is to check it out during the day, and if you can stay 1 night, if you don't like the vibe or the sounds coming in, then bail out the next day.

No matter where you go, the Korean tour bus isn't far behind.

Sonny I mentioned the location and price to my wife this morning when I got home. I also told her that there were prostitutes near there. Like you she just laughed and said there are prostitutes everywhere in Medellin. Even near her sisters house in 12 de Octubre.

I stayed in this hotel for 3 weeks before I got my home in Poblado. Not one time was there a problem of any sort. It was quite and secure. The hotel has armed secutity 24/7. The prostitutes must have been close as my wife would not let me walk in that direction. :) The only sounds I heard were the rain and the band on the 6th floor. It was nice.
