Hotel & Saturday nightlife in Bogota

My international flight arrives This Saturday (Feb 17) at 8 pm, so I hope I can get to my hotel by 10 pm. I'm not sure where I'm staying, but I'm thinking of treating myself to a decent location since I'll want to go out when I get there. I'm thinking maybe the hotel Exelsior or Hotel centro Internacional based on my online research only. Does anybody know any good places in the $25-$40 range? or maybe I'll just head to the hostel area for a cheap and simple place. I haven't made any reservations yet. Usually when I travel I just wing it the first night. Can I do this in Bogota?

Any recommendations on specific places to go out on Saturday night. It would be great to go to some bars where where locals in their 20s and 30s go. Is there any night life, even if causal, on Sunday in Bogota?

Thanks for any help on Bogota!

Try Hotel St Simon in Zona Rosa - right next to great bars and restaurants. 124,000 pesos for a small room. Hotsle area - you will need a reservation if u want a single room at the Platypus - dorms should be ok for a wing-it arrival. If u r going to hotels in this area (Candalaria) u can wing it.

Sat Night bars - recommend you go to zona rosa or P 93 for a beer or two in the Irich pub or BBC. Then hit Salto del Angel in P 93, or Kukamakara (live music and packed) which is below p 93 on 15th street. After that try Gotica near Zona Rosa.

You could also try Cha cha which is on the top floor of the old Hilton - good disco and awsome view.

Sunday is dead - a few people go to BBC and Irich pub in zona T. If there is a holiday on the monday, then Dancatoria gets packed Sun nights. Its near Zona T and is on 85 with 13 (across from the other BBC in this area).

WTF? Let me get this straight...you're arriving Saturday night and you think you're going to get a hotel room, on a weekend...with no notice, for $45?? Good luck dude... Funny thing is, some friends of mine (whom I had already made reservations for) are showing up at St. Simon tomorrow night (Friday) so when you get to town, look me up by my last name you see at the bottom here and you can join us.
By the way, Gotica is great if you're 18 and don't mind head-pounding ritmo until 9 a.m. and if you're in St. Simon (pronounced "san see mon"), (rooms 203-703), you have a front row seat to all the stumbling drunks and fights from Gotica and all the usual suspects on 82. Bad news is: if you're up that late (or early), you're probably the one in the fight. P93 is mejor but good luck getting in anywhere if you're arriving in Bogota that late. Really, some of this town's best places aren't in the Zona or P93 but I'll defer that to DonGringo to chime in.
My advice, call St. Simon right now (011 57 1 621 8188) and either Hector or Angel will answer and they both speak English. Otherwise, good luck and enjoy Bogota.

Out of interest why dont you think he will get in to clubs after 10 pm. I usually go between 11 and 12 PM, sometimes later, and always get into them ( not sure about Cha Cha on a Sat night) - although occasionally have trouble getting into Gotica. Salto and Kukamakara are always a given for a Gringo to get into.

Just around the corner from your hotel (if u stay at St Simon) there are two Salsa places that are pretty good as well (on the street up to Andino).

El Sitio in P 93 is another good choice, older crowd, or Africafe (small restaurant bar cum disco type thing).

Suites Real 85 Hey Chi,

I always stay at the Suites Real 85 in Bogota. The price is about 100K Pesos, and it is located about 3 safe, walkable blocks from the Zona Rosa. I personally like it because it is close, well-priced but a little more quiet and low-profile than the St Simon. Very limited English is spoken there, but the place is great, the staff is nice, they have hot water, etc.

I would absolutely make a reservation in advance. If I recall correctly, their phone number is 57(1)-218-01-00.

Ditto what AJ1203 said. I also stay at the Suites Real 85. As a matter of fact, I will be there on the 18th. Very clean, great value, free wi-fi, hot water. The latter two features are not common in Colombia. Around the block from the hotel, is a great grocery store. Carullas I believe is the name. Good ron selection. And like AJ1203 said, it is a close and safe walk to Zona Rosa. You have to call to make a reservation. Emailing the hotel is a waste of time. The phone number AJ posted is correct for the hotel.
