Horror Night in Cartagena with my gringo Fiancé

´Finally my fiance had few days of vacation so we decided to go to cartagena, Bought the tickets and got on the plane..

The Hotel was gorgeous (Sta clara) but we noticed that the day was cloudly so we went for a walk and visited few places then at night we went to nice restaurant in front of the sea, the drops of rain start falling down and suddenly a thunder storm.

we finish our dinner and in our way to get the taxi to take us to the hotel I felt down on the floor trying to rush to dont get wet, Oh my god! I broke my thom I couldn´t walk and I was screaming and crying.. So we took the taxi and I ask the driver to take us to a Saludcoop hospital (my insurance health).

The Hospital wasn´t a saludcoop one, was something else but he said just in that I place I could be attended, it was horrible horrible look dirty and scary, the doctor took my Xrays and said it wasn´t broken..

It was just sore..so we asked the lady on the desk to get us a taxi to come back to the hotel, she said: Well I´m afraid there are no taxis comming to this area !!! WHAT??? yes there is a floating of 1 meter all around this neighborhood.. so I said well lets go walking and get one out on the street, the door man said:((No way is too dangerous...

So we waited 2 hours under the hugeee thunderstorm and finally a taxi arrived to the hospital bringing an emergencie pacient, Thanks god I said! and the weel of the taxi had a damn puncuture!! What else now!! the hombre caiman is gonna come to kill us!!!???

We begged the taxi to take us to the hotel, he said yes but is going to be very dangerous, by that time i did not realize how bad it was: all the streets in the barrio were with 1 meter floating, in the middle of the streets the (fishing guys as the driver said) I ask what ? yes they are fishing people that get stoicked in the cars in the floating !!!!!!!!!! what yes they are homeless and thieves oh my god!!! I START PRAYING as I´ve never have done many huge cars were stocked in the water and we were crossing it in a HELL twingo ! I think becaouse of my praying we finally got to the hotel and we were locked out for 15 minutes because the storm turn off the energy.

Next day we packed our things and came back to sunny Bogota!

Yes Cartagena is really beautiful but better go on sunny dry days and NEVER NEVER accept the taxi drive suggestion for a hospital in the worst neighborhood!

yep, it's hell walking with those broken "thoms."

But you are right, I have seen unbelievable flooding after some thunderstorms in Cartagena-too flat for the water to drain efficiently. One the wife and I were trapped for almost an hour in one of the casinos on San Martín-that hour's wait cost me 300 USD

Darn, that does sound awful! But I beg to differ on the sunny Bogotá, this weekend was so manky and cold I had to do a lot of soulsearching to take a shower... Still, hope you had a better time in Bog with your fiancé.

I often wonder how colombianas could be so thoughtless as to put their gringitos in so much danger and filth by inviting them to Colombia.
If I had a girl friend from Europe I would not even think of going there, I’ll be afraid of all those skinheads roaming around beating up on everyone with a shade of color.
or if I had a girl friend living outside new York city or Miami , no way I’m gonna visit especially now with this hatred toward all lations.
Colombianas please be more considerate, their pretty blue eyes are not used to seeing so much filth and desperate poor dangerous people like we have in our country.
Thank you!

Yeah, Europe is dangerous. I would like to visit London and return to my roots but I might get taunted by a bunch of hooligans. I can just picture it, they surround me and start throwing rocks and bottles at me. At least here in New York they just shoot you with a gun. Its over quick!

Morph, imagine hooligans roaming in NYC? Them Puerto Rican and black kids would kick the living crap outta them in a NY minute. Not even their Nazi flag would survive the beating.
They’ll take those boots and shove them up their ass so deep it would take Chinese and Indian doctors 8 hours to remove.

The hooligans would'nt last in New York. We do have a problem with young European guys coming to New York to write graffiti though. They make up for most of the arrests for the crime. The are trying to re-live 1980s New York. Usually its one guy with the spray paint and another with a camcorder. Then they get arrested a few minutes later.

Well, Elmo, Juernes at the Plaza de los Mariachi, it is a snob place for guys from north. Visit Fredy, down en La Murillo... it looks like "Titty Twister" bar from "From Dusk Till Dawn". Except that the girls are old and feas... who pays for that? :-)
But I wouldn't advice blonde gringos to go there...

Last year, during Carnaval I was living 200 meters from Juernes at the house of my good brother in law. My son got christened en la catedral el sábado de carneval, I wonder if that will affect him when he'll grow up... :-)

I've been to El Prado and saw your "idol" Diomedez singing there... but I cannot stand him, so I got away and went drinking on the street... looking at the gringos doing a show near the luna park there...

I may end up staying near the stadium en La Gaviota or en La Mora at the other side of the family this year...
Where does your family live?
I have an apartment en la 18 con la 47, a couple of blocks from the chicharrones place, but now it is rented out...

I'll come out, and call it one of my favorite movies. I loved it, and I purposely do not watch it a lot so I don't get tired of it. The best scene is at the very beginning when the Texas Ranger walks into the liquor store to drain his lizard. The dialog is classic. But the acting in the entire movie is incredible.
