TengaFlipHole has a thread about honey serving as an erection enhancer in the Off Topic section (or did have). Which left me rather curious as to the state of honey production, or otherwise, in Colombia. A quick squint at Wikipedia shows that it isn't on the list of significant producers, but I'm wondering if there's a degree of small scale, boutique beekeeping over there. With its vast range of tropical and subtropical flowers, I should imagine Colombian honey would be a multivaried and quite fascinating culinary experience.

Bill Turley (Trustee board) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Dec 1, 2008, 10:24: There certainly is honey production in some areas of Colombia. In fact this morning (Monday) I heard my dog going crazy so I knew that someone he knew that he didn't like was at the gate.Since there are very few in that category when I went to the gate I was not surprised that ae elderly neighbor was at the gate with a bottle of fresh natural honey. 750 ml for $20,00 COP. He produces the honey about 300 meters from my land. Mr. Bill Somondoco 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

johnny2008 says on Dec 1, 2008, 10:56: Yes I have tried Colombian honey, most of them, they are pretty damn good but they are sometimes less than revered by the locals. Reason being, Colombian honey wherever it is produced seems to crystallise in the Bogotá climate. So it is neither a runny honey nor a "creamed" honey but a sort of runny honey with lumps in it. Not important if you want to drop a spoonful of it in a cup of chamomile tea, nor if you are prepared to stand it in a bowl of warm water for 10 minutes before partaking. But a bit offputting if you want to neck a spoonful on the hop.
