Home building in Columbia

I have been in residential homebuilding market in USA for 30 years . In the larger cities are there sub-divisions that are built for the ones who can afford single family new homes . Or are there more apartments built to address the cost per sft and buildable land availbilty. I would like to work there in my chosen trade which would be executive management although I have worked in the field for appx 20 years .

Thanks / sam

Home Building Hello,

There is a lot of construction going on in Bogotà right now. Generally, construction companies build apartment buldings here. There are not too many single family homes in Bogotà because of land and prices. Now they are getting into townhouses, in lcosed communities with security. It is a good idea if you have lots of money and do not need to borrow much money. The interest rates here will kill you.

Reply to Cristina That is kind of what I thought. I think that I would be able to fit in with any style construction format but High Rise would be a learning cruve for me in some aspects. My expertise is Purchasing, but you must be versed in all phases of the building process to be sucessful at it. The townhomes market would be perfect.I now build in USD from $85,000.00 to $750,000.00 . That includes
Town-Homes ,Condo's and Single Family. I have a lot of work to do since my Spanish is terrible (nil) almost.

Thank you for your response / sam

Tough business Construction seems like a really tough business to crack into in Colombia. I suspect that like in the USA, there's a big need to deal with certain shady organizations and know how to manuver that path correctly in order to get your large project finished rather than languishing eternally while waiting for the cement trucks to not show. There's also just a huge amount of residential construction going on here right now and it's hard to imagine that there won't be a glut sometime soon.

Finally, like someone noted above, interest rates here are brutal. If you could bring cheap US money down somehow to finance investment here it'd probably be a good business.
