Holiday- Pamplona, Cocuy and Merida

Its time for me to take a holiday and was thinking of heading from San Gil through Pamplona to visit friends, then hiking in Cocuy before getting over to Merida to do some Rafting and kayaking (yes Venezuala, booo hisss).

I have friends in most of these areas so I don´t need to much advice on them.

My question is does anyone know any other places of interest on this road that my friends might not have thought me interested in.
