Hmmm...To Believe It or Not? Is this Kite Boarding video real or doctored?

Since i am getting into Kite Boarding here in the windy city of Cartgena, a friend sent me this video of a kiteboarding incident. Cartagena is well known for its kiteboarding winds, warm water, etc. Based on the swimwear of the kiteboarder it is definitely not the northern coast of Colombia, although the Cartagena airstrip is close to the beaches. Does it look real to you, or does it look doctored to look real? If it is real, sure sucks to be him...jajajjajaj...

Lets see if this video works, its entitled "Adiosssssssssssssss" jajaja..how appropriate:

I have seen that before. It has to be "doctored" becuase that would have made international headlines if true.

I saw what PCL is talking about on the news. Ya, some dumb-ass decides to kite board while a tropical storm was off-shore. Right on Fort Lauderdale beach. The guy got ripped off his feet, flew across A1A, and smashed into a building. I didn't realize he survived. They initially said he was in critical condition.

Thats some funny shit..
You see the guys friend when he first hits the beach..runs after him and then stops after he takes off again!
Their was some video floating around years ago of a supposed Scuba or Snorkler off the coat of California that got scooped up in one of those big Air Tankers used to fight wild fires. He was swimming and got scooped up and dumped out into the fire. They had video of his charred wet suit, flippers and gear way up in a tree like 20 miles inland...jajajaja

I remember watching in Miami news a guy in South Beach that was lifted and slamed on the street nearly killing him. I guess you have to make sure the wind gusts don't go over certain speed. I saw some guys in Cabo de la Vela do it. It looked really fun.

On sundays here in Ctg there is a group of about 5 guys who kiteboard in the afternoons as long as there is a decent wind. I also heard that there is a windy lake near Medellin where one can kiteboard as well. Anyone know of this lake?

Ranaquajo....some Ecuadorean kiteboard intstructor told me there was a lake they could do it in. if there is enough wind to windsurf, i am sure it would be ok to kiteboard. I take it that it gets pretty windy there? how big is it? i hve never heard of the place.

Hiya Miguel,

The original video you posted is (as stated above) a commercial for Sprite. It's a couple of years old now. It was produced in Denmark and didn't get much international airplay which is why it's not very familiar to most people.

The Director is Jonas Arnby. He's a pretty funny guy and has directed some incredibly successful viral films in the last few years.

Check out some of his other work here: http://www.jonasarnby.com/

Cheers,
Terry

... aaaah ... back at home and a real keyboard..... Mr. TenPenny, I am sorry to inform you that I could not find the link I was thinking about.... maybe it was something that I read in a book way back before..... but I digress...

to answer a couple of your questions: the reservoir has an area of about 64 square kilometers... just a few less than the 70 square kilometers of Lago Calima which boasts that it is the "largest artificial lake in Colombia"... they do, indeed, experience winds all year long, but the windiest time of year is August/September (if I can believe my paisa friends...:)

MC...
I have been to El Penol many times at different times of the year. For the most part you get cool and some days down right cold weather because of it being up at a higher elevation. I have never really seen or experience a consistent wind where I would say, "hey, this could sustain a steady hobby" like say near the ocean near you! The lake is beautiful no doubt. The weather there is pretty much hit or miss. Its laid out kinda weird. sorta like fingers or sections. Just my personal assessment.

fish. you're assessment of penol is accurate to my experience. it's usually cold as is the water, and it's lots of little harbor like areas. i always found it a bit windy...too much to make swimming comfortable, but whether it's enough for kite boarding, i've no clue.
