Hip Hop in Medellin?

Hello there.

I recently moved to Medellin and I'm wandering if anyone could direct me to a Hip Hop club?

Thanks.

Hip hop or reggaetón?

Colombians are not known for liking hip hop much.

Jomama-

The young kids in Medellin LOVE Hip Hop!

I don't know much about the Hip Hop scene in Medellin, but am aware there is a scene to discover.

Yesterday, another PBH member and I were talking about Hip Hop and House Music in Medellin. I am planning on meeting with a few gallery owners on my next trip to see if I can set up a Gallery Show for US graffiti artists.

An old friend recently contacted me to to see if I would be interested in promoting a show for him in Medellin next year. He is one of my old graffiti partners who has gained major recognition around the world for his work.

Check out the link below to see his work... "Risk" I am credited in the pictures as "Jester." WoW! That was soooooo long ago!!

Visit http://medellin-colombia.blogspot.com to view a documentary on Hip Hop in Medellin, as well as an article posted in the alternative newspaper, The Village Voice, from New York.

Also check out Mario Ocha's website. Mario was born in Medellin, Colombia in 1982. First guitar lesson at the age of 9. He also took part in some choirs and even in a school band where he improved his voice skills a little bit more. At the age of 12 Mario's influences were Spanish Rock and Heavy Metal. At 14 he started flirting with Hip-Hop being part of some local bands.

In 1998 electronic music started strongly in Colombia and Mario Ochoa discovered what would be his real future. Influenced by the storm of electronic sounds Mario started producing his first tracks applying the knowledge he got whit his early guitar lessons. Just one year later Mario Ochoa met Jessus one of the key figures related whit the launch of Mario's musical career. Mário started spreading tracks among friends and they started supporting him playing the tracks at the big parties in Medellin. He definitely started growing as both DJ and Producer.

In the year 2000 Mario Ochoa and Jessus made "Symphony" a track that reached number one in in the best Dance station in Medellin "La Super Estacion 92.9 Medellin".

In 2001 Mario kept on improving his production skills focusing on more people friendly tracks and also more complex productions being strongly influenced by both tribal sounds and Disco sounds of the 80's.

Jomama there is a good Hip Hop Club in Poblado called Deja Vu.... they don't play Colombian Hip Hop though, they usually play American stuff, like 50 cent, Akon, Fabulous, The Game etc...

By the way the most fpopular Hip Hop group in Colombia is called La Etnnia... here is a video:
