It's a real company I think, I've heard from them before. Try them out but be careful with your cc info :) Let us know how it goes!

Poor but snappy

I found it complicated. Couldn't figure out when I would need to pay and when it woudl be free. Even the FAQ left me confused.

None of them are completely free. Some services off better deals to different regions. I stopped using skype a long time ago. Even Yahoo Voice offers better prices to most places than skype.

This is a legitimate startup company, they are well funded and they are trying to disrupt the telecom industry with their service. I have used them and heard good things from others. Their service is a bit confusing the way it works. I gues what you do is initiate a call online. That means you click on a link and then your phone rings. As soon as you answer, it starts ringing for the other person.

Rob, what VOIP company have you found that has best voice quality?

I still use Skype, as I am happy with the reliability and quality. I use it for work calls to clients that don't know I'm on the other side of the world. So sound quality is key.

Always interested in Skype alternatives if they come recommended. My complaint with Skype is that sometimes I don't hear the first 2 seconds of the call when the person answers with their name, and if we both talk at the same time, the sound cuts off.

que nota!

For those in the US...

Instead of the hassle of a VOIP system that only allows you to make calls from a PC or a voip phone, I use a service called CrossFone. They offer a flat rate of $35 a month for up to 2,000 minutes to any landline in Colombia.

You can call from any phone and they have local access numbers all over the US. You register your phone numbers and the system auto-recognizes you, so there are no PINs to input. They also have speed dialing so you only dial two digits to make your calls.

If you need more minutes, they have business plans as well.

You're right. That may be a good option for folks in the US.

Though, personally, I don't like being committed to paying so much if I may not need that many minutes each month.

$35 is a drop in the bucket for someone that calls a lot. It's well worth it to avoid the hassle of being stuck making calls on a PC. They also allow calls to mobiles, but charge 12 cents a minute.

I use a program called www.voipbuster.com. You buy some credit sure, but the big advantages are that they have a list of countries where you can call landlines for free! (and to mobiles in the US).

I've used it on quite a lot on internatonal calls and have never had a problem...

I can give accounts USD 3 to the first 10 PBH friends living in Colombia who sent me a PM. I would guide them donwloading the software necesary and if you got a voip gateway I will help setting it up.

The accounts can be either from Phoneserve or Icallhere.
