Hezbollah en Colombia!

Southern Command chief concerned about Iran's Latin influences

By the A.M. Costa Rica wire services

The commander of U.S. forces in Latin America says the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah is involved in drug trafficking in Colombia. The admiral is worried about increased Iranian and Hezbollah activities throughout the region.

At a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing Tuesday, the commander, Admiral James Stavridis, accused Hezbollah of involvement in the drug trade.

"We have seen in Colombia a direct connection between Hezbollah activity and the narco-trafficking activity," he said.

The admiral's comment came in response to a question from a senator seeking more information about concerns first raised by U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates before the same committee in January. The secretary accused Iran of engaging in what he called subversive activity in several places in Latin America. He called newly opened Iranian offices in Central and South America "fronts" for interfering in local affairs.

Admiral Stavridis, who heads U.S. Southern Command, noted what he called "an increase in a
wide level of activity by the Iranian government," including the opening of six new embassies in Latin America during the last five years, and what he called "proselytizing and working with Islamic activities throughout the region."

"That is of concern principally because of the connections between the government of Iran, which is a state sponsor of terrorism, and Hezbollah," he said. "We see a great deal of Hezbollah activity throughout South America, in particular. "

Stavridis said the United States has good cooperation with the tri-border countries of Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina and that policymakers receive what he called a reasonable level of information about what goes on there. But, he said, there are no U.S. military personnel in the area.

The admiral also spoke about Venezuela during his testimony. He said the United States does not have a good understanding of what the government of President Hugo Chávez intends to do with his growing military and strong relationship with Russia. But Stavridis said reduced revenues from the fall in the price of oil will affect Venezuela's ability to continue its high level of arms purchases from Russia and to maintain and operate its new, expensive weapons systems.

The US Military using the threat of terrorism as a pretence to increase their presence in a region with huge natural resources.

Deja-vouz, anyone?

And the link of narco-trafficking to tie it in with Plan Colombia is absolutely 'textbook' :)

How much do we hear of the US (and indeed the UK) taking action against terrorist groups in areas that have little natural resources. Just ine example...Rwanda, few resources, 1 million slaughtered in '94, no action taken.

There is only one way to deafeat them. You do what needs to be done to FARC...kill them, take no prisoners. You can only win if you keep cutting off the head when it grows back over and over and over. And let's not get to socialistic here like in the northern european welfare states. Hezbollah and those that think like thme only want to do one thing...kill you. That has been thier rallying point since they began. It is the stated reason of Islam...they have been preaching this crap since Mohammed (Not the Holy Prophet) smoked his first hubbly bubbly and got stoned and did his siter in the name of God.

If SA let's them get to strong of a foothold they will kill you, your parents, your wife, your childen unless you repent and become part of the world's single most ignorant entity. Islam.

I lived in thier society for seven years in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Yemen and Egypt. They are a very sick group of people.

So Rikito, what are we supposed to do then? Employ the same narrow minded barbaric tactics that Islamic countries use? Is there really well founded intelligence that Hezbollah has made a beachhead in Latin America or just simply a bunch of folks of Arabic descent. Weve got flocks of em here on the border between Costa R. and Panama and they dont bother anybody. In fact theyre industrious and create 100's of jobs for otherwise unemployed young Panamanians. Jewish people and Muslims manage to live in peace in Panama City. My guess is the problem is overrated and exagerated. And as Markobhoy stated, "I find it amazing that U.S. citizens (and foreigners) still take statements for the US military/govt at face value". I can assure u Mark, I dont..........

whole lot of prattle here about islam...rikito says he lived in the islamic world for seven years...musta had his eyes closed. they are hardly all ignoramuses nor brutes. nor are they terrorists.

it goes with out saying, that there are loco fundamentalists...they're just sideshow freaks, like manson, looking for followers and anaudience and they can blame it on GOD.

i lived and worked in iran for 13 years, married a 'godjar' and made ashod...testiment. i was in a sufi order for many years and met countless deeply devout and deep lovers of GOD.

such pronouncements like the above are nothing more than ignorant hate mongering and serve nothing for a world that needs to extricate it'self from these depths. we don't need to sink any deeper.

i think pbh had enough of the islam bashing with LDW and his drivel. nothing different than a klansman with a hood. out looking for a lynching to spark up his night.

don't misconstrue my words as being in any form an apologist for the extremists and terrorist in islam or for that matter any religeous group...christians, jews and chinese have enough radicals to take up any slack. the world is full of mad men...that's why we must all work to achieve piece by finding it first in our own hearts and when that garden is well tended, like weeds, loving fruit, spreads and goes on to contaminate everything and everyone it touches. we should all remember that regime change starts at home.

Rikito says on Mar 21, 2009, 12:50:

dwmte7, I couldn't disagree with you more. Just because you lived in Iran for awhile gives you no more insight than someone from China commenting on Taiwan. Iran is a very modern state, its people are diverse in thought and tolerant unlike the rest of the Islamic worked. They are also tolerant of other religions.

Yes, Hezbollah is here in Colombia and other places in SA. There have been several articles on their actions in the last two months. They are becoming increasingly involved with FARC and their drug operations for new sources of money. Nor am I hate mongering. Open your eyes and look past the poetry of the Rumi types. I am stating pure fact. Hezbollah and all Islamic extremists want only one thing...they want the infidel to turn to Islam or die a horrible death. They do not care who you are or what Sufi tent you come from. Shias are a violent people and only recognize their own form of Islam. If you do not believe this, then it is you who are the more ignorant.

What people need to know is what Islam is about, how it treats non-believers, Kafirs, and their own Islamic women, Jews, Christians, and anyone who tries to disagree with them. Yes there are many good and faithful people of Islam, but when push comes to shove they will easily join in the killing. There is a study about this that goes back several years...it is called the Stanford Prison experiment. Read up on it and it will prove my point even from a distance. It’s damn scary.

So go ahead and welcome your Islamic brothers and watch them take all that is yours. How do you stop them? Your last paragraph says a lot and is very profound. But you also keep and develop a strong society that tolerates all factions of life. Take a look at what they have done in the Sudan, Somalia, and other African nations that were taken by Islam. The people were (and are) slaughtered, raped and their children are made soldiers to die for a religion they do not believe in. Since you have lived in Iran and you were a Sufi you were also a Muslim. In Sufi Orders they strive to live a more perfect form of life. Iranian Sufis tend to be Shia and use their strength in the intellectual advance and the dissemination of culture in societies governed by Islamic sovereigns. With all of this you must also be aware of the story about “The Camel's Nose in the Tent.” This is the Islam of Hezbollah and yes, using your words, these people “are hardly all ignoramuses nor brutes. nor are they terrorists.” I am sorry, but they are so don’t turn your cheek away to long or the likes of Hezbollah will cut it off.

Colombia needs to develop a more mature aristocracy and stop the constant childish behavior of the current politicos. Look at the U.S. and see what happens when corruption and childish behavior are the thoughts of the day.

...and so it goes

thoughtful post rikito....thank you. that doesn't disuade my sentiments, however.

those who do what is done at the edge of a knife or a suiside vest or the likes of sudan and somolia, are not following the teachings of the prophet and are thus not symbolic of islam. that does not mean that these terrorists are not to be condemned, rather it is to say they are not islamists.

the two schools are separated by a thin line although a very distinctone one. first, sunnis are follower of imam shibli, the first disciple of mohammed. and shias are followers of imam ali. now what distinguishes these two is the shis say that all is from GOD. and the sunnis say, ALL IS GOD. those who understand these most profound differences, know islam and know the teachings of the PROPHET. and they are not terrorists.

islam is laden with HIGH AND HOLY SAINTS AND SAGES. at the same time, it is pregnant with false pretenders who use the curtain of religion to hide their criminality and diabolic activities. they should not be lumped together.

it is difficult for us in the west to understand much less appreciate these differences....especially when so many rag headed maniacs, professing islam, chop off heads, rape wonen and children and slaughter with abandon.

the same difficulty faces people of the middle east and the orient who see the attrocities perpetrated by the western church going back centuries and even unto today. i needent list these horrors as those who are familiar are well familar and they know, as well, that these diabolic actions of the catholic church and other churches, in no wise are the teachings of CHRIST nor the way set down for us by GOD.

pobrecito, why did you make the comment you did. Was it out of ignorance since you do not know me or could it be that because you are French you know everything? people like you are so typical and remind me of my first wife...always quick to interrupt a discussion and acclaim their superior intelligence even though they have little clue of what is being discussed. dwmte and I are in a basic agreement, but we see thing from a different approach which his only natural given his religious training and internal beliefs. Unlike many Christian beliefs, Islam lives their faith openly...they don't make false statements. For example, their desire to conquer and convert all infidels. Their desire to conquer the world even by killing anyone in their way is well documented. These statements are true and where supposedly said by the Prophet.

My friend. the sickness is yours for not trying to understand and becoming more educated about Islam and what their intentions are. There are some wonder people who are Muslim and I have many friends of this faith. But I do not trust their beliefs and I doubt it I ever will. Just read how they treat women and you will get a good idea.

Salam ali kum

According to HRW its still legally tolerated to kill your wife in many parts of South America.
